High - version DOS is compatible with the floppy disk format of low - version DOS.

A 5-inch floppy drive is even supported by XP SP2.
A 512K disk is definitely not in FAT format..... Is it a special format created by formatting a 360K 2D disk?
I have indeed seen and used 140K Apple ][ single-sided disks and 800K Mac 3.5-inch floppy disks..... These seemed to be unreadable by PC floppy drives at that time
