If letting it judge automatically still misses a lot of patches. How can I download all the patch files related to Windows 98 (mainly the SE edition) separately?

Some patches are optional, but some are necessary, such as language packs, shutdown patches, and Q243199 needed when using RASPPPoE for dial-up. Now Windows 98 SE is about to be "out of print". It's better to collect them all while Microsoft hasn't shut down yet, in case of future needs.

Win98 doesn't matter. It's not the same kernel as XP, so the security should be relatively high.

I'm not downloading patches for any security reasons. I'd have downloaded them long ago if that were the case. It's mainly for normal use and collecting for keeps before they become obsolete.

Oh, that's how it is. I remember when using Windows 98 before, you could call up a "Download Basket" on Microsoft's website, and then all patches could be downloaded to the hard drive. I don't remember exactly if it's still available now.

Hehe, if you install everything completely, your C drive will probably need at least 3GB of data. If you use 98, it's best not to install patches, otherwise you might as well switch to another system. A patched 98 is almost the same as NT.

3GB? Have you installed it?

I said, have you seriously read my words and the relevant links? What am I going to download the patch for?!

Boss, I always listen to you the most! I re - formatted my hard disk and then installed Windows 98 SE, but I couldn't upgrade it several times. Later, I downloaded and installed IE 6.0 from other websites, and then I could upgrade normally!
Now I'm collecting these patches with Download Master! There are so many of them, it won't be possible to finish in one day!

Download basket? Where is the download basket you mentioned? I can't find it.

Also, don't use terms like "boss" or something like that. Don't watch too many Hong Kong-style movies. Of course, being polite is a good thing. Be a polite kid and you can call me uncle if you want

Hello, uncle!
The specific steps to download the patch to the local hard drive using the download basket are as follows:
1. Enter the Windows Update website. Click "Start→Windows Update" (users of winxp can find it in "Start - Help and Support" to enter Microsoft's update site. If Windows Update is not found in "Start", you can enter "wupdmgr" in "Start→Run" and press Enter, or directly enter http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/... in the browser address bar, and then the "Tools→Windows Update" command.
2. Click the link of "Personalize Windows Update". Then select "Show links to the Windows Update Catalog under related topics" and click "Save settings".
3. Click the link of "Windows Update Catalog" under "Related Topics", then click "Find updates for the Microsoft Windows operating system", and then select the operating system version. Here we select windows 98 and windows 98 second edition, click search, and the search results will be displayed.
4. Select a category from the list, such as Important Updates, and all important update patches will be displayed. Each patch has a brief introduction. Use the "Add" and "Remove" buttons to add or remove the upgrade package from the "Download Basket". When the selection is completed, click "Go", enter the path to save the upgrade patch in the download basket interface, for example "d:\update", and then click "Download Now". Click Accept in the pop-up web dialog box to start downloading the upgrade package.
5. After the important updates are downloaded, you may need to repeat step 4 above, because only "Important Updates" was selected just now, and there are also multiple updates such as "Other Windows Downloads", "Internet and Multimedia Updates", etc. You can choose to download according to your needs.

I have downloaded all of them!

Thanks a lot for the detailed introduction by sister afn!

I followed these steps, but when I got to step 4 and clicked "Go to Download Basket", the following prompt appeared:

Windows Update Error

Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page.

Select from any of the following pages for information about Windows Update services, or send us your feedback.

Windows Update Home Page
About Windows Update
Support Information

You can also get online support if you are having problems with Windows Update.

It was like this after trying several times. It seems I can only try again later.

Time waits for no one. Need to upgrade on V4.
Address: https://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/zhcn/
There is no download basket for V5 and V6!
First: During the process, a window will pop up asking you to install a plug-in. You may have blocked it, which won't work!
Second: Your Windows 98's IE may need to be upgraded to IE 6.0 SP1, otherwise it won't work!
Like me, if I do a clean install once, the first problem won't occur. Usually, over-optimization is also not okay!

Tried several times today, still no good!?

I just did the upgrade on V4, and here's the address when the error occurred:
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/zhcn/default.asp

All the necessary plugins are installed, IE is also 6.0SP1, and no optimization software is used.

Just do a clean install once, then install IE6.0SP1, and don't do anything else! What error message is there? Post it and let's see! My current computer is XP, clicking your link will become V6
