I used: title Run Floppy from Diskette kernel (hd0,0)/boot/memdisk.gz initrd (hd0,0)/pqvf.vfd Then the following situation occurred: My computer is AMD 1600+ 512MB memory 80GB hard drive Can't run this virtual floppy, but my PIII 400 notebook can run it. I don't know why?

If it's grub 0.97, just use map --mem (hd0,0)/pqvf.vfd(fd0) map --hook chainloader (fd0)+1 rootnoverify (fd0)

The odd thing is that memdisk doesn't work on my computer, but it works on my laptop. And map works on my computer, but when it comes to my laptop, it can't load the IFS driver. I don't know what's going on. Is there a Chinese version of 0.97? [ Last edited by kaidashi01 on 2006-6-5 at 08:47 ]

pqvf.vfd should be a hard disk image? But since it's only 2.88M, memdisk loads it as a floppy disk image!

Try to replace it with the latest version of memdisk. The version of memdisk you are using is a bit too old.

This memdisk is version 3.11, but it still doesn't work. I really suspect it's a CPU issue. My CPU is AMD, maybe incompatible. Intel P models work. I'll try a few more machines these two days.

To run MS-DOS 8.0 with memdisk, you need to add the raw parameter. Check the memdisk instructions or search the keyword "memdisk raw" on the Google search engine on the Internet. There is no need to add similar parameters for grub4dos. But grub4dos requires that the BIOS complies with both the industrial standards of int15/EAX=E820h and int15/ah=87h. Some machines (or software) that do not support these two industrial standards may fail.

I also encountered the same problem. Setting drive a in the BIOS to none will work. But then it's not universal. Waiting for your solution.
