Moderator, hello. I have already tried DOS710, duse.exe, and Motto Hairu in various driver-loading methods, but none of them can see the USB hard disk. The prompts are as follows:
OHCI USB Controller initialized (BASE 0xd1000,IRQ11)
USB CD-ROM support enabled
CD-ROM:
USB Drive support enabled
Drive E:
I also changed the parameters of DUSE.exe, or used it with no parameters at all; versions 4.2 and 4.4 behave the same way.
So where exactly is the problem? Thank you for your advice.

What would the result be if, after the above DUSE, you then used the DEVICE command to load USBASPI.SYS and DI1000DD.SYS?

config.sys is
DEVICE=HIMEM.SYS
device=DUSE.EXE VERBOSE=0 XFER=64 NOCD
device=USBASP1I.SYS
device=Di1000dd.SYS
If I add DEVICE =aspiohci.sys /int /all, ID1 =... appears and installation succeeds, but there is no drive letter at all.
If I use USBASPI.SYS, the machine hangs, so I am using USBASPI1.SYS or USBASPI2.SYS.
The other symptoms are the same as above. drive E:. also cannot use the usb disk.

Oh.
Yes, it shows “Target not found.....”, so the USB device is not installed either. Then the Di1000dd.SYS program after that also shows that it was not installed.

After using the above configuration file, the result is as follows:
After DEVICE=C:\DUSE.EXE VERBOSE=0 DRIVERS=1 XFER=32 runs, it shows:
DUSE version X.X Build XXXX
Copyright Cypress Semiconductor, 2000-20002
OHCI USB Controller initialized (BASE 0xXXXX)
USB Drive support enabled
Drive E:
But the prompt from DEVICE=C:\USBASPI.SYS /R is:
“Host Controller not found....

Still can't use the usb disk. What should I do now???

There isn't any problem with your machine's usb port and usb hard disk, right?
After I use the above configuration file, the result is:
After DEVICE=C:\DUSE.EXE VERBOSE=0 DRIVERS=1 XFER=32 runs, it shows:
DUSE version X.X Build XXXX
Copyright Cypress Semiconductor, 2000-20002 (same as above)
OHCI USB Controller initialized (BASE 0xXXXX)
USB Drive support enabled
Drive E: (here it shows that my device was found and the drive letter was loaded)
But the prompt from DEVICE=C:\USBASPI.SYS /R is:
“Host Controller not found....

After that it can be used normally! You need to make sure your device is working properly first!

It looks like the problem shows up here
Drive E:
On the popup screen, it shows: “load device failed”.
My usb hard disk works normally under win98, and it is in primary/FAT32 partition format, no problem!

How are your usb hard disks partitioned? Do they have the active flag “80”? Is the format FAT16 or FAT32? Are there logical drive letters?

How do you use a usb removable hard disk under dos? Could the brother in the post above explain the whole process in detail? I would be most grateful!

Mine is FAT16, could that also matter!?
I hadn't thought in that direction!

I remember Chanzong said that when using DUSE, having a FAT32 partition on the USB drive is also no problem.

Then what could the reason be? My motherboard uses a Sandi SIS chipset, and under win98 the USB controller chip is shown as
Sis 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller.
But under the scan in DUSE.EXE, USB can be enabled, yet it just cannot load device.
If I use the ASPI program, it cannot even find the HOST Controller.

As for mixing these programs together or using them separately, the result is the same. Is it that the USB box's chip is no good, or the motherboard is no good?
Please share your opinions. Thanks.

Could it only be understood as a compatibility problem with your usb hard disk??

It would be great if you could get more usb hard disks to try!
