I downloaded several times online but couldn't get GRUB that can be installed in the hard disk MBR. It's said that there need to be stage1 and stage2 files, and what other files are there! I just can't get them! Who can help me?

Stop using stage 1 and stage 2. Use bootlace.com + grldr instead.

Can I use bootlace.com + grldr to install the Chinese version of GRUB to the MBR?

This system is indeed quite good. The speed is very fast. But I don't know how to make flexible use of it. I want to use it as a platform for one-click recovery supporting the hidden primary partition. I don't know where to start.

Bootlace modifies the MBR of the hard disk, adds a segment of code to search for grldr, and then placing grldr in the root directory of any partition allows booting.

It will modify automatically, execute the command under DOS,
bootlace 0x80
Then it can be installed to the MBR of the first hard disk.

Thanks. Is it that simple? If I put the GRUB file on drive D, will it be able to find it? What files are needed in the Chinese version and where should they be placed? The files in grub_for_dos-0[1].4.2pre4 are so messy, I don't know where to put those files. Do I need all those files or just some? Please tell me again!

Generally, grldr can be placed in any partition. If there is a problem, put grldr in the root directory of the primary partition. It can be any partition format. For the Chinese version, you need the grldr in the chinese folder and also load the font file.

It is suggested that you find some materials about GRUB on the Internet to get to know it first, and then practice.

Your boot directly enters the GRUB command line. This may be because GRUB fails to find the menu.lst file.

This may also be caused by the different case of the menu.lst file name (try changing it to lowercase), or it may be caused by some unknown BUG in GRUB4DOS.

If it doesn't work on drive D, you can also try putting it in the root directory of drive C or other drives. If it doesn't work in the root directory, you can also try putting it in the position of /boot/grub/menu.lst.

If the partition type where GRLDR or menu.lst is placed is NTFS, there may be an error of not finding the file (such a BUG will no longer be regarded as a BUG, because the support for NTFS is not guaranteed, maybe it can be solved in the future, but no one is working on solving this problem at present). You can try to create a FAT32 or FAT16 format partition on the hard drive, put menu.lst in the root directory of it, and it will definitely succeed.

You can now find out whether there is a menu.lst file on your hard drive under the GRUB command line. Look at relevant materials to make use of the powerful GRUB command line function.

But when I install in the MBR with stage1 and stage2 files, there is no problem, but it's in English, and Chinese display is garbled!

The success rate of GRUB automatically finding menu.lst is only half! It's not that GRUB has bugs, it is estimated that during the scanning process, it is related to the hard disk's seek mode! I set my hard disk to LBA and it will be 100% successful!

How did you install GRUB?
