It is strongly recommended that when making boot disks in the future, try to use the DOS files under Winme. In this way, the version can be higher, the functions can be stronger, and the size can be smaller.
For example, the Fdisk under Winme can partition hard disks larger than 80G, while the one built-in with Win98 cannot.
Similarly, for EXTRACT.EXE, the one under Winme is only 53K, while the one under Win98 is 95K, but the functions are the same.

Why is that? The MS-DOS 8.00 included with WinME is less compatible than 7.10. Also, the reason EXTRACT.EXE is 95K is because it's not compressed. After compressing with UPX, it's only 48K (the EXTRACT file in my MS-DOS 7.10 boot disk has already been compressed).

The small size is because the logo is removed from the IO.

It can be done with software, but it's best not to use COMMAND.COM and IO.SYS

The startup of MS-DOS 8 does not support the printing function, and it also does not support booting into Win3.x, because Microsoft deleted some DOS functions in order to reduce the size of IO.SYS in DOS 8.

I think DOS 8.0 is not as easy to use as DOS 7.1. For example, I think the SYS command is not as easy to use as in DOS 7.1.
