It's quite an old - fashioned one, not heard often. Most of the time, version 3.1 is heard. I'll try it when I have time later.

Nice antique, reminds me that there is still a set of genuine Win 3.0 at home, 7 3-inch disks of 720KB from 1990, but due to the long passage of time, these disks can't be read anymore.

The installation files were things released by M$ on their own BBS and FTP back then. Now they can still be downloaded from several places.

The download speed is extremely slow.
It seems that I have never successfully booted Win3.0 to standard or 386 enhanced mode from a DOS version higher than 6.22, and it also seems that there is an upper limit on the memory size supported by 386 enhanced mode.

VHD files don't seem to work.

The PPT files inside are all garbled when opened with the current PowerPoint.

You haventd decompressed .........
The things inside all need to be decompressed first with expand.exe.
If the new version of VPC, VMWare is not friendly to this test.vhd, please use WinImage to extract the files inside.
I am from Unicom's community broadband, and it is difficult to explain many things.

I tried using test.vhd as the virtual hard disk in VPC, directly booted to DOS 3.3 and then entered windemo. But after the Win3.0 boot screen appeared, the system immediately prompted "unrecoverable processor error" and reset. I also tried it on a real machine, and after the Win3.0 boot screen appeared, the system had no response. It was the same under MS-DOS 6.22 and MS-DOS 7.10.

The environment where I created the VHD and screenshots is Connectix VPC 4.0 @ Windows 98.
Please start with VPC 4.0, not with M$ VPC 2004.
The standard mode of Windows 3.0 is incompatible with HIMEM.SYS of DOS 6.x, completely incompatible with DOS of Win9x.
Entering win/r can definitely start, but then that Powerpoint cannot be used.

I tried with DOSBox. Put the files in the VHD into a folder, and directly run windemo.com with DOSBox, without any memory settings, and it can start successfully.

On my old machine, as soon as DOSBOX plays sound, it's like a turtle crawling. So I usually don't use it.

After rechecking, it is found that this Windows 3.0 (referring to the standard mode, not to mention the real mode) can run normally under Virtual PC 2004 and MS-DOS 6.x/7.x (there is no compatibility problem), but the only limitation is that the XMS memory cannot exceed 16MB, otherwise it will crash after the boot screen is displayed!
