Our unit has a computer. One day after using Rising Antivirus, when entering the system, the desktop is gone (no taskbar, no desktop icons). Open Task Manager and find that there is no EXPLORER.EXE process. Besides reinstalling the system, is there any solution?

Maybe explorer.exe was deleted. Copy one from another computer and give it a try.

Finding that there is no EXPLORER.EXE process does not mean the file does not exist. Try typing EXPLORER or WIN directory\EXPLORER in the New Task of Task Manager

I have tried this method, but it didn't work. I couldn't find EXPLORER.EXE in the WIN directory through Task Manager either. When I told the computer shop staff to copy one from another computer, they said it wouldn't work because computer configurations are different. In the end, this computer was reinstalled. So from another perspective, antivirus software is not good to install (for those not very proficient with computers). Otherwise, if you kill a virus, system files might be damaged, resulting in mutual destruction. If you don't kill it, what's the use of installing an antivirus software! The words are a bit extreme, but be careful when surfing the Internet. Like me, I don't install an antivirus software and use Windows 98, and it's been fine for more than a year. I often surf the Internet and download various software to test. Hehe!

As long as the Windows version and the Revision version are the same (including Service Pack), Explorer.exe is the same.

What the user above is correct.
Generally, the following three types are commonly used:
1. Windows 98 Second Edition (98SE)
2. Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (2K SP4)
3. Windows XP Service Pack 2 (XP SP2)

Then, the EXPLORER (including other system files) of these three is the same, regardless of the configuration.

That might be a problem with "Shell=Explorer.exe".

For Win9x systems: Check the section in System.ini.
For NT systems: Check the Shell entry in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\

To enter the registry when you can't get to the desktop:

For Win9x system: You can try booting from a bootable floppy disk or CD, then find the System.ini file in the system partition to check the section.

For NT system: If you have a Windows installation CD, you can boot from the CD and use the recovery console or the registry editor option in the repair mode to access the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\...

You can try the safe mode! Then change 1

I can't imagine how many programmers still have the leisure to write viruses targeting WIN98, so using WIN98 to go online is definitely much safer than XP and has a longer lifespan.

Your point is just that Explorer.exe doesn't run automatically. I run Explorer.exe but it doesn't display. After ending it and running Explorer.exe again, it can display.

After antivirus, entering the system, the desktop is gone! The main reason is memory overflow, and it's not just missing an Explorer.exe. Please check Rundll32.exe, svchost.exe, etc....

If you can run cmd, try SFC /SCANNOW to immediately scan all protected system files

Makes sense, I feel the same. Now many viruses are mainly focused on XP
