Using the methods of a boot CD to make a boot floppy is obviously a good idea. Unfortunately, the author is clearly an expert at making boot CDs, but does not have a thorough understanding of boot floppies. After trying it out, my main impressions are as follows:
1. There isn't much useful software in it; in other words, aside from the interface, the practical functions are not powerful enough. 2. Too much space is wasted. If it were tidied up a bit, probably about 200-300K of space could be squeezed out, and quite a bit of useful software could be added. 3. Since it's a Chinese menu boot disk, the English display at startup should be hidden. 4. Since it's a Chinese menu boot disk, how can it not have a Chinese-language platform inside? 5. Most of it is still English software, which does not match the label. 6. Memory usage is too high. Just a few opinions. Please forgive me if anything I said is wrong. Let's learn from each other and improve together. |

Hmm, you've all talked it down as if it were worthless. The English display at startup can't be hidden unless you use a logo. If everyone could make a perfect boot disk, there'd be no need to come to this forum. Better to give some constructive suggestions and focus on encouragement, no?

What I mean is, it's best not to say this isn't good and that isn't good either—he had just barely stuck his head out and got "killed" right back...
If you ask me, it's hard for me to say too, I just feel that menu interfaces written with this Menustar thing always have the same face, all cut from the same mold. I'll just temporarily modify one made with it and post a picture as my view: ![]() |

Yeah, LK is still more capable than I am. Actual stuff is much more convincing than my words.

I personally think this kind of Chinese menu doesn't mean much. Just as the moderator said, it only wastes precious resources. What we need is Chinese localization of the menu in the CONFIG file.

The disk he made doesn't really have much to do with boot CDs, does it?

I don't understand why everyone wants to Chinese-localize CONFIG.SYS. You can completely make a menu yourself in AUTOEXEC.BAT, and it looks better too!

What the poster above said makes sense. That's exactly how I do it!

Using Menustar to make a Chinese boot interface is also a very good choice. It's just that this disk has quite a few problems. Aside from the few points mentioned by Master Rushi that I also agree with, the most serious one is that KV3000 can't run and says there is a memory problem.
Later I added EMM386, and conventional memory increased from 470K to 610K. Sure enough, KV3000 could run. Then I added the TW Tianhui Chinese-language platform (230K). I also replaced EDIT, HD-COPY, and FDISK on the original disk with Chinese ones, and loaded TW first before running the above software. That way it truly became a Chinese boot, Chinese-language platform, and ran Chinese software in the full sense. After a complete overhaul, after loading the Chinese-language platform, 577K of conventional memory remained; if the Chinese-language platform was not loaded, the conventional memory remaining was 610K. Enough to run ordinary software. The first English interface choice at boot is completely unnecessary. If you want to boot from the hard disk, who would bother stuffing in a floppy disk? So I removed it. (The original interface didn't have boot from floppy, only boot from hard disk and CDROM, which was even more confusing.) Of course, because of floppy capacity limits, adding the above software is not an easy matter. Quite a bit of software compression and software replacement has to be done before it can be added. Since it's rather cumbersome, I won't go into details here. |
