The interstellar freighter "Nostromo" is a large commercial transport ship carrying 7 crew members. It is returning to Earth with a large amount of ore. While en route, the crew, who are in hibernation, are awakened by the main computer. It turns out the ship has received a signal, and according to the instructions they received, they must change course, investigate the cause, and carry out rescue activity as appropriate.
The signal was sent from a primitive planet whose atmosphere cannot support life. The team sent to the surface discovers the wreckage of a spacecraft. Its crew died long ago and have become fossils. But in the lower hold they find many large round objects like insect eggs, protected by a layer of radiation, seemingly still showing signs of life. At this time, however, Lieutenant Ripley, the third officer aboard the mother ship, has already deciphered the signal. It was not a distress call, but a warning—but it is already too late. One of the creatures in the eggs attacks a crew member, damages his protective suit, and remains attached to his face. The ship's scientist Ash tries to cut it open, only to discover that the blood flowing from it is a terrifying, highly corrosive acid. Just when everyone is at a loss, it suddenly dies a day later, and the acid inside its body is neutralized, while its shell gradually silicifies into an unbreakable armor.
But the good times do not last long, and something even worse happens. It turns out this alien life-form was not dead at all. It sneaks into the human body, forms a cocoon there, and after growing inside, kills the host in order to survive. Faced with this terrifying creature, the crew split up to search for it and destroy it, only to find that it has already grown into a huge alien monster. One by one the crew are devoured by it, and Ripley discovers that there is something wrong with the main computer: some strange instructions had been entered into it. It turns out the company planned this voyage all along. Its purpose was to bring back the alien organism for research, even at the cost of sacrificing the entire crew, and Ash is the android sent to carry out this mission. Ripley manages to kill Ash and decides to abandon ship in order to destroy the alien. Just after the shuttle leaves the mother ship, the self-destruct sequence is activated, but the alien is already aboard the shuttle. Ripley uses the exhaust duct to cast the alien into space, then enters hibernation.
