I took a look at DOS Home these past few days, and I feel its popularity is higher than ours. Quite a few people have been coming to this forum too these days, but why is the posting volume still not very large? In my personal opinion, there are several reasons for this. Of course, if there is anything wrong in what I say, please criticize me freely, brothers and sisters.
Today, with Win versions constantly being upgraded, the familiar DOS is gradually becoming more distant. Among those who come into contact with DOS and study DOS, very few can truly reach the level of webmaster wengier. The posts at DOS Home are quite simple and easy to follow, while the content here is relatively deeper. People who come here may worry that the more they say, the more mistakes they will make (though of course this worry is completely unnecessary). Yes, this site has a high level. But because of that, it may also lose some of its friendliness toward beginners. One can only admire it from afar like a lofty mountain.
There is another phenomenon on this site. The webmaster wengier replies to almost every post. I think a marshal who is always fighting on the front line can at most only hold the position of a general. A webmaster is an organizer. A marshal should plan strategy in the command tent and decide victory from a thousand miles away, rather than focus on one-sided local battles. I fear this is also why some friends say this site “feels too much like a personal website.” Even Zhuge Wuhou, capable as he was, failed to seize Wei despite making seven campaigns to Qishan. I fear that had a great deal to do with his “personally handling everything.”
Handling everything personally, no matter how big or small, is also why many problems can only be touched on superficially.
Leave some room for the moderators or ordinary users to speak. Or raise some guiding questions.
You could open a wengier reception room. Webmaster, what rests on your shoulders is not merely the rise and fall of a personal website.
Some moderators also come by very rarely now. A certain system of rewards, penalties, and promotion should be implemented, and total overall post count should not be the only standard. I think this would certainly stir up the enthusiasm of some of our colleagues; after all, it concerns honor and disgrace.
The language barrier must be the biggest obstacle for newcomers who want to learn DOS. So, experts, could your explanations be made as clear and easy to understand as possible? Do more Chinese localization of DOS software and more teaching as well.
I’ll stop here for now. Please, those who truly love this site, add more.

Thank you very much for your analysis. It really can be said to hit the nail on the head, and I feel the same way. I’d like to ask: what kinds of questions count as “guiding questions”? And what is a “reception room”? I very much agree with a “system of rewards, penalties, and promotion,” but I’m still not very clear on some of the specific methods. Master Rushi, how about you serve as the forum’s chief administrator? (I’m only a “super moderator,” not an administrator yet.) We can just follow your assignment of the forum’s specific tasks, all right? My ability as webmaster is really quite limited; I’m afraid I can only be a vice-webmaster at best.

I also have an idea: since this site is at a relatively high level, then in order to attract beginners here, we can make the posts in the forum’s “DOS Learning Basics / Newbie Guide” section all very simple and easy to understand, so that some beginners can be drawn in by that (that is, the power of “friendliness”), while the other sections of the forum can contain more in-depth research posts (like they do now). How about that?

Thanks to the webmaster for the approval. I can do this work, and I certainly will take part in it. I’m afraid I can’t serve as the forum’s chief administrator just yet. In this kind of technical forum, ability and prestige are quite important. (In that respect, no one can surpass wengier.) I will definitely give the webmaster appropriate opinions and suggestions in time. The webmaster only needs to keep hold of the word “organization.” Research should still be done when it ought to be done; after all, the forum still needs some substantive content. As for the work, just let the moderators handle it.
The reception room can serve as the webmaster’s exclusive section, a front-line window to the outside, for dealing with some site affairs or substantive issues. It would be personally managed by the webmaster, while the other sections could be left more in others’ hands. That would free up some time to develop more things.
Guiding questions are one of the best teaching methods. Just as the Buddha taught his disciples, making frequent use of analogies. Lead them to think for themselves, and then let understanding arise in their own minds—that is real knowledge. Besides, it can increase their participation.
As for the webmaster’s idea that the posts in the forum’s “DOS Learning Basics / Newbie Guide” section should all be made very simple and easy to understand, so that some beginners can be drawn in (that is, by the power of “friendliness”), while the posts in the other sections remain more in-depth and research-oriented (as they are now), I am very much in favor of it. Only, of course, this should be after the section reorganization.

As for the system of rewards, penalties, and promotion, I think we should leave it for everyone to discuss. The wisdom of the group is beyond compare. Let me offer one point: the popularity of a person’s posts should be considered as part of the rating score.

How should the reception room be set up? After it’s decided, we’ll still have to ask administrator 随风顺来 to make it. Also, has the final plan for section reorganization been settled yet?

The reception room would basically be the webmaster’s exclusive section. As for the section reorganization plan, I will gradually submit it for discussion in the Feedback & User Discussion section. Please pin this thread, webmaster.

We generally focus more on the technical side, so Master Rushi’s opinions are all the more valuable. As for management-related issues, please speak up more often in the future, Master.

If you're not a moderator, you can't use the management bulletin...
Would it be useful to let everyone in the forum see it?

Just as the OP said, I’ve come to NewDOS many times, because I really want to master how to use DOS. The language barrier really is the biggest obstacle for beginners like me, so at first I never dared to try. Only recently did I make up my mind to learn it well, and I feel I’ve gained quite a lot.

Although I only registered today, I’ve also noticed that webmaster wengier really is far too busy. Someone ought to help share the burden with him.

Lastly, I hope the experts can be as specific as possible when replying, and at the same time I hope beginners (like me) can be a bit more patient too.

The following is quoted from Master Rushi’s post on 2003-4-21 at 01:02:38:
