It seems that 5.5 is the final DOS version, but I once saw a very beautiful nc in a book that can directly display long filenames (such as directly displaying Program Files, which is much better than vc). Most of those nc files are from around 96-10-01, so they should be products of that time. And they are installed in the "program files" folder, or are they Windows programs?

According to what you said, it should be Norton Commander For Windows 1.0. As far as I know, the highest version of the DOS version is only 5.5, and this version doesn't seem to be a retail version, but seems to be a leaked version. Also, the 5.5 version can display long file names under Windows as well.
