I've been looking for this program for a long time. In pure DOS there's atxoff.exe, and under 2k/xp there's shutdown.exe. But I just can't find a command line that can directly shut down the system under win9x. By "shut down the system" here, I mean shutting it down the same way win9x does through Start -> Shut Down, not directly cutting the computer's power and then causing win9x to scan the disk on the next startup.

It's also very simple to keep Win9x from scanning the hard disk on the next startup. You only need to set AutoScan=0 under in C:\MSDOS.SYS.
Yes, that way it won't scan the disk, but it still can't guarantee there won't be disk problems. I'm not against disk scanning. If you didn't shut down normally, then it should scan when it's supposed to. I just hope to use a command-line program to shut down the win9x system properly, instead of directly pressing the machine's power button and then simply making it not scan the disk on the next boot.
I hope the moderator will read other people's posts more carefully, because your attitude represents the attitude of your whole forum, and it also fully shows your scholarly spirit. Right now you give me the impression of being a bit careless.

It's not that I didn't read carefully. I understand your purpose very clearly. It's just that I don't really know the method for shutting down directly from a DOS box under Win9x either, so I didn't answer directly.

I can't shut down under pure DOS. There is no such file as atxoff.exe. It's not an external command, is it?

eliuwei: There is a lot of shutdown software for pure DOS, such as SHUTDOWN, POWEROFF, and so on. They can all do it. There are downloads on this site.
