Installation Guide for XPde, a Windows XP-like desktop system under Linux
1. Download:

2. Installation:
(1) Extract: tar zvfx xpde-0.3.0-20030315.tar.gz
(2) Switch to the root user or run su
Enter the xpde directory: cd xpde-0.3.0
Run install.sh: ./install.sh
Run setup.sh: ./setup.sh
3. Add an XPde startup entry in gdm (taking rh8.0 as an example):
cd /etc/X11/gdm/Sessions
vi xpde #create a new file named xpde, and add the following content:
exec /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession xpde then save and exit.
chmod a+x xpde #change its permissions
Modify the /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession file:
cd /etc/X11/xdm
vi Xsession #add the following content at line 102:
xpde)
exec -l $SHELL -c "$SSHAGENT xpde"
;;
Next, go back to your user directory:
logout or exit (if you used su)
cd #enter the user directory, or use cd $HOME
mv xinitrcDEFAULT /usr/bin/xpde #you must have run ./setup.sh first
chmod a+x /usr/bin/xpde #change its permissions
Done! The job is finished! Restart gdm and log in with your user account to have a look, and experience a Windows interface under Linux!
