I think that since it is called a "Chinese" boot disk, it should preferably have a Chinese interface, and at the same time the following functions.

1. Menu function:

What you said is somewhat right too, but if the Chinese system has not been loaded, many programs with a Chinese interface will show garbled text, and using those programs becomes very inconvenient. Their general applicability would drop somewhat within a certain range, but making a boot disk with a completely Chinese interface is also something I want to do. I support your view.

I agree 90% with colleague 1k's view.
The slight difference is quoted from the posts I made on the 12th and 13th:
I want to say a bit about the positioning of making a boot disk.
For well-known reasons, floppy disk space is limited. So it is impossible for one tiny boot disk to contain everything.
Therefore, when making a boot disk, you first have to define its purpose: antivirus; or networking; or decryption; or recovery... only then
can you start properly. It is like writing an essay: first there must be a topic.

Adding Chinese localization support is only for friends like me whose English is poor, so that under DOS
they won't be as helpless as I was at the beginning. Actually, personally,
I think DOS Chinese localization is one of the important directions for DOS development in our country.
What's more, for a newbie like me, the Chinese localization function of this disk, under DOS,
is one of my important tools for trying out various DOS software.
As for the English shown during boot, part of it can be hidden.
As for making it completely absent,
I am powerless to do that. But,
-------is it really necessary???

Based on the above, must we waste limited space on flashy but impractical interfaces? Of course,
if it is a boot CD, then I raise both hands in support.

Then let me ask, what exactly is something called a "Chinese boot disk" supposed to be aimed at? Please note that the subject of this post is only some views on Chinese boot disks, not DOS boot disks or other boot disks, so there is no issue of wanting to include everything.
As for whether it is necessary, I think if you are making a "Chinese" boot disk, then it is necessary. If from boot-up to completion not a single Chinese character is seen, can it still be called a "Chinese boot disk"? Is it enough to call it a "Chinese boot disk" just because there is software like TW inside the boot disk?

Let me also say something about DOS boot disks: I think all boot disks should give more consideration to DOS beginners, because a DOS expert has no use for your boot disk at all, at most they would just collect some DOS software from the disk!

Precisely because of considering DOS beginners, I emphasized the instant Chinese localization function of DOS in my boot disk.
I completely agree with your view: merely having a Chinese-language platform in the boot disk does not count as a Chinese boot disk.
But at present, domestic DOS software or Chinese-localized DOS software is still very few in number. One aspect of why we use DOS, which cannot be denied, is its powerful functions. So are we to give up some easy-to-use and convenient foreign DOS software merely because of the definition of "Chinese"?
If so, can some of wengier's actions also be considered not worth approving?
I think the long and difficult task is:
1. Chinese localization and tutorials for excellent foreign DOS software;
2. creation and compilation of outstanding domestic DOS software;
3. teaching and guidance in all aspects of DOS.

Let me state again that this post of mine is about "Chinese boot disks"! I have not questioned your purpose in using DOS, nor have I denied its powerful functions or said anything about giving up foreign DOS software!
Under the subject of this thread, dragging in whether wengier's actions are worthy or not is even more absurd nonsense!

My original meaning of "Chinese boot disk" was a boot disk with basic Chinese processing functions (including basic Chinese display, editing, and so on). I think any boot disk that has DOS boot and system management functions, can support most Chinese software, can normally display Chinese characters, and has basic Chinese processing ability can be called a "Chinese boot disk". As for the rest, what is to be discussed is only the difference in the degree of DOS "Chinese localization". Must DOS software interfaces be completely changed into Chinese interfaces before it can be called a "Chinese boot disk"? I don't think so.
For a 1.44M capacity, we need to use compact software as much as possible to improve its various functions. Making a "completely Chinese" "Chinese boot disk" is also an idea I had a long time ago, but at present it is still limited by various factors (such as disk space, software design and application, etc.). If we make a "completely Chinese" "Chinese boot disk" right now, because it takes up too much space, it would not suit actual application needs.

It seems this is a matter of individual understanding, but regarding the moderator's view here, I still can't help saying one more thing: if "Chinese boot disk" is understood the way the moderator understands it, then any English version of Windows that merely "supports most Chinese software, can normally display Chinese characters, and has basic Chinese processing ability" (even if some Chinese localization tools are added) could be called "Chinese Windows".

Still, thinking about it this way is not bad either; a DOS boot disk with a fully Chinese-character interface;
with a beautiful boot screen;
Chinese-localized programs, or simply all-Chinese programs;
the functions do not even need to be too extensive,
just a few basic commands like the Win98 boot disk would do~~~~
It would surely attract quite a few people into the world of DOS.

The screenshots in the top post of this thread (except that QB is not installed on this boot disk) are exactly the Chinese boot disk interface I made. No matter which option you click in the menu, it starts DOS software that has already been Chinese-localized. After completing that operation, if the software requires rebooting the computer, then it reboots; if you choose not to reboot and exit, then it returns to the original options menu. These software tools are all very practical. The DOS file manager uses VC; friends who have used VC know how powerful it is (it's just a pity my localization skill is too poor). From the last screenshot it can be seen that the Chinese system is supported by the TW platform, and the remaining conventional memory of this boot disk is still as high as 624K! The conventional memory optimization was done with reference to moderator wengier's 7.10 boot disk. Here I want to sincerely thank moderator wengier and all friends!

The above is only my personal understanding of "Chinese boot disk". What I said is not entirely rigorous either, please forgive me. I only considered DOS, but did not consider other systems. As for WINDOWS, I think WINDOWS itself must be a Chinese-language platform before it can be called "Chinese Windows"; I believe lk means that as well. In addition, our understandings of "Chinese DOS boot disk" may differ slightly, and right now there is no unified definition of "Chinese DOS boot disk", so I would like to ask everyone to talk about their own understanding of the meaning of "Chinese DOS boot disk". Thanks!

Moderator, you're being too modest! WINDOWS is an operating system; it has only been Chinese-localized, isn't that so?

Actually, the two words "Chinese" in "Chinese boot disk" are themselves already a strong definition. Could there really be many other definitions for it? A "Chinese boot disk" is different from other boot disks. If there were no difference, why not just call them all DOS boot disks? Why bother putting the title "Chinese boot disk" on it?

Let's suppose there is a DOS beginner (of course, not counting DOS experts who are proficient in English; I still think they have no use for these boot disks) who sees two boot disks, one called "DOS boot disk" and the other called "Chinese boot disk". Then he will surely head straight for that "Chinese boot disk". I think he would definitely understand what "Chinese boot disk" means (its definition).

Then where can I download the "Chinese boot disk" made by lk? I'd like to try it.

After all this, it's just to argue about what a "Chinese boot disk" is called!

lk, how did you implement the interface of your Chinese boot disk?
