China DOS Union

The Windows 3.x boot disk on this site has a major problem. Because it uses the English version of Windows 3.1, it is extremely incompatible with Chinese characters. I myself used its boot system to access the hard disk, and as a result all directories and files on the hard disk with Chinese names were ruined. What a disaster! Just a warning to everyone to be extremely careful.

That serious? Did just accessing the hard disk damage it, or did it only become like that after you performed some operations on those Chinese files on the hard disk?

I only accessed the hard disk, then later booted into Win9x, and it became like that. Besides, even if I accessed Chinese files, I couldn't possibly have accessed every single Chinese file on the hard disk.

Could it be that there was some problem with the hard disk? My hard disk also has quite a few Chinese filenames (including Chinese long filenames), but I've never had this kind of problem using the English version of Win3.x.

Could it be that you happened to get infected with a virus?

What kind of special operations? Do you mean editing those filenames under an English platform?

For example, moving those files and so on under English Win3.x.

Under pure DOS, that's impossible. But if DOSLFN is loaded without specifying code page 936, then when working with Chinese long filenames under pure DOS they will be displayed as underscores. But short filenames cannot possibly be affected.
