I downloaded the MS-DOS 7.10 installation CD from the forum
Then I successfully mounted the image file with a virtual CD-ROM drive

But no matter whether I install it in the virtual system or in Win98 DOS, it still won't install properly,
and the following prompt appears:

My DOS installation path is D:, and I also did not format D:

Could an expert please give some pointers
Thanks

Drive D:? Could it be that it can't be installed because drive D: is not the boot drive?

DOS can only be installed on drive C:, and the file system must be FAT32.
