When I boot with the DOS 7.1 boot disk, sometimes it just freezes on the DOS 7.1 screen and stops responding......

Is the scrolling animation bar below it still moving? And if you press the ESC key, what response do you see?

You mean the color-changing scrolling bar? It's still moving, pressing ESC does nothing. Pressing CTRL+ALT+Del does nothing either......

Then I think it's probably a hardware fault or a problem with the BIOS settings. Please check the hardware settings and so on.

What chipset motherboard are you using! umbpci isn't very compatible with some newer boards.

I have three computers. The newest one has an AMD Athlon CPU and an SiS 735 motherboard, and it's incompatible with UMBPCI, but it only shows a warning message when loading UMBPCI and never crashes. The other two use Intel and VIA motherboards respectively, and both run UMBPCI without any problems.
