How do I deal with this? These two useless clowns just can't do a damned thing! - China DOS Union Forum

A friend's hard drive with bad sectors has been sitting with me for a while. Yesterday and today I really gave it a thorough going-over.
Who would've thought, I called in every god under the sun, used almost everything there was (no fewer than 20 or 30 of them), including low-level formatting, and none of it worked.
As soon as it scans the media, it hangs.

Among them, PQMAGIC and FBDISK (grandly calling itself a bad drive partitioner) are the biggest crap!
The others could at least still partition and format it (even with bad sectors, using it was hit or miss, but sometimes it still worked).
This PQMAGIC just says one thing: partition table damaged, exit.
Damn it, if it's damaged then that's exactly why I want you to repartition it! But with its PTEDIT (partition editor), it can display the partition normally again!
And that FBDISK, after it runs, it even reads cylinders and heads as 0!
What am I supposed to do? These two useless clowns just can't do a damned thing!

Haha, although I don't quite understand what “these two useless clowns just can't do a damned thing” means, I can still understand how you feel, because before I also tried using PQ, FBDISK, and 效率源 together on a 20G IBM hard drive, and I couldn't fix it either.

You could also try diskgen.

Hard drive fault repair is extremely complex work. It is not something that can be solved on a whim by trying every kind of tool. First you should understand the drive's usage history as much as possible, analyze the cause of the fault, whether it really is bad sectors, where the bad sectors are, and how extensive they are. You should also learn as much as possible about the various professional software tools: what their respective strengths and weaknesses are, what consequences their use may cause, whether it is possible to restore the drive to its original platter state, and so on.

Only after that should you choose the tools and determine the repair plan according to the actual problem. As far as possible, choose stable versions of well-known software tools, and exclude personal software as much as possible. The repair plan should follow the principle of first easy then difficult, first small then large, and you should think out emergency measures for unexpected situations in advance, so as to keep the problem within the range you anticipated as much as possible.

As far as I know, there are fewer than 10 well-known professional tools for repairing bad sectors, domestic and foreign combined. As for the PQMAGIC, fbdisk, diskgen, etc. that you mentioned, as partitioning tools, they can only work around certain bad sectors within a limited scope, and should not be overused, so as to avoid creating even more new problems.
