Hmm, the Traditional Chinese edition has brought a big increase in popularity to New DOS Era. I will keep working hard to make the site even more popular. I’m very enthusiastic about helping host the forum together with you all, and I hope everyone will give me plenty of guidance in the future.
Also, moderator, why is it that when I want to reply to your private message, the forum says I’m not logged in, even though I clearly am? What’s the reason for this?? |

I ran into this problem before too. Later, after reinstalling the system, it never happened again. Anyway, it was really baffling.

Reporting to the site admin, I booted using the MS-DOS 7.1 boot disk you made, and entered the second-to-last option, mainly to load the USB hard disk, but when it tries to load there is no response, and it hangs there. It seems like it keeps searching......
My hardware specs are as follows: ASUS P4T850 BIOS-1006 P4 1.5G Rambus 256M Maxtor 40G Acer 16X40X10 CDRW Acer 16X48 DVD Adaptec 2940Uw SCSI/AIC7850 Motherboard onboard USB1.1 (the USB hard disk is connected here) USB2.0 The question is, after loading it, how do I find the USB hard disk? Use FDISK? Looking forward to your early reply! |

If the USB driver is not loaded, FDISK will not be able to find the USB hard disk. But where exactly does the system hang when booting with the DOS 7.1 boot disk?

Dark-Destroy, yes, I reinstall the system every so often.
After installing WINDOWS+OFFICE+IE55+DX8 and a few pieces of software that are not updated often, I use GHOST to make a backup. Sometimes when I feel there are too many problems, I delete the GHOST file too and reinstall the system. |

Then wouldn’t that mean reinstalling the system all the time? Is there really no way to solve this problem??

The following is quoted from Wengier at 2003-4-10 20:37:21: It hangs here: Loading USB drives support... Duse version 4.4 Build 110 Release (General) Dos USB stack Driver with USB storage Extensions Copgright Cypress Semiconductor,2000-2002 I went in with the first option, and added: A:\ctload duse.exe drives=2 The result was the same. Typed: A:\duse A:\ I even thought it had been added, but after entering fdisk, it still couldn’t find my removable hard disk. |

DUSE cannot be executed directly from the command line, unless you use commands like CTLOAD or DEVLOAD. Try adding the NOO parameter and see whether it still hangs.

The following is quoted from Wengier at 2003-4-11 11:14:12: I already tried both CTLOAD and DEVLOAD, and the result was the same. How do I add the NOO parameter? |

The following is quoted from Wengier at 2003-4-11 19:39:18: I already tried this too. Is there anything else? Could it be related to SCSI? Or maybe the mouse, since my mouse is also USB |

If it’s a USB mouse, using OHCI.EXE or UHCI.EXE will do.

Strange! My mouse can be recognized without loading anything. For example, when running GHOST, it already has a MOUSE added inside, and then it can be recognized. Now the issue is the “hard disk,” so what should that be? I specially took it to a friend’s place tonight to try it, and as a result it actually worked there. But when entering FDISK, I still couldn’t get in, strange! Using options one and two, it actually didn’t work. His machine is an INTEL815 board, CII733. Don’t you think that’s strange? Haha!
