I'm a newbie: I'm using the windows me operating system, and I have a rather basic question: I want to download a boot disk here that's suitable for windows me, but I don't know which one is the right one to download. Also, I've heard that windows me doesn't have pure dos, but I don't know what that means. Thanks in advance.

Whichever disk suits your taste, download that one. Then make yourself a WinME boot disk, keep the core boot files, delete the rest, and copy in the corresponding tools from the boot disk you downloaded.
WinME's DOS is hidden away; just download a WinME real-mode patch and that solves it. |

The boot disks made by WinME and WinXP are both MS-DOS 8.00 boot disks. So you only need to download an MS-DOS 8.00 boot disk from the site's "DOS Systems" section.

I tried using WIN98's FORMAT and SYS on a WINME boot disk (without applying the patch). After changing the version number in VERS, they could be used normally and could transfer system files, but it still couldn't make the hard disk boot DOS8.
Can a patched WINME system disk format drive C as a system disk? DOS8's core files are 100K smaller than DOS7's, so it should be possible to make a better system disk. |

Set "winbootdir=." in MSDOS.SYS, and then a boot disk can be used to boot Win9x/Me on the hard disk.
