Specifically, it depends on the ADSL modem. Some modems come with router functionality. Enter the management interface at 192.168.1.1 (the address varies for different brand modems), enter the management account and password, enable the routing function, set up automatic dialing, then add a switch, connect the network cables of the local area network machines to the switch, and set the IP, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS for each machine. But now the modems given by China Telecom usually do not have routing. If you directly connect a switch, you cannot achieve local area network sharing of the broadband. Then you need to buy a broadband router. Although it is relatively expensive, it has similar functions to a switch, and the setup method is roughly the same. That's mainly it.

Nowadays, most routers generally have automatic dialing, but I have only configured TP - LINK and D - LINK.

It's actually not difficult to configure, but the difficult part is figuring out the concepts and uses of routers, switches, and hubs.

Please follow the instructions. The specific operations are not easy to express in text, and I can't be detailed.
Also want to ask; How to configure a "supernet"? Also, if a company has multiple departments and wants to divide different departments into different subnets, how to set it up? [ Last edited by 220110 on 2005-10-27 at 17:40 ] |

I think any model is okay, as long as the individual can afford the price.
I find that many people only use the router's functions of isolating the external network to allocate subnets, firewalls, and automatic dialing functions, and other functions such as port mapping, MAC binding, etc. are not used. |

RE: 220110
I still know a little about this. You can set subnets of different departments to different network segments. |

I know about dividing different subnets, and VLAN is even better. But I don't understand how to set the gateway and mask for supernets. Please give me some advice.
