My smartdrv configuration is smartdrv /x /u 2048 1024
/x turns off write caching. DOS doesn't have the disk cache detection mechanism that 9X has when shutting down, so turning off write caching is to prevent data that didn't get written in time from being lost when the machine is accidentally powered off (mainly on older machines before).
/U turns off high-speed caching for the CD-ROM drive.
2048 is the cache size under DOS (according to a test article I read before, it said 2048 is the most suitable cache size for performance; when it gets larger, performance won't improve much. If it's too large, it can actually slow the machine down, because the machine will spend too much time searching the cache)
1024 is the cache size under WIN3X, 9X...
