To create a super MS-DOS 7.10 bootable disk, some practical features are essential. For example, the super MS-DOS 7.10 bootable disk I made (the latest version from September 19, 2003) currently has the following 25 features:
1 - DOS boot logo screen 2 - Multi-configuration boot menu 3 - Comprehensive support for Chinese and English long file names 4 - Comprehensive support for (V)FAT12/16/32 5 - NTFS drive support 6 - USB drive support 7 - Large hard disk support 8 - Large memory support 9 - Various CD-ROM drive support 10 - RAM disk function 11 - Chinese support 12 - Comprehensive mouse support 13 - High idle conventional memory 14 - High system stability 15 - System maintenance functions 16 - Support for various compressed packages 17 - Graphical file management 18 - Can directly boot Windows 3.x/9x 19 - Powerful display control functions 20 - Compression processing of files on the boot disk 21 - Strong system compatibility 22 - Very strong universality 23 - Support for various protected mode DOS programs 24 - Has a complete DOS style 25 - Many very practical tools For more detailed introduction, please see: http://www.cn-dos.net/msdos71/readmecn.txt The download address of the super MS-DOS 7.10 bootable disk is: http://www.cn-dos.net/msdos71/mdos71bd.zip Note: You should choose the best programs to use, such as using UMBPCI or EMM386 for UMB drivers, using VIDE-CDD.SYS for CD-ROM drive drivers, using CTMOUSE.EXE for mouse drivers, using DOSLFN.COM for long file name drivers, etc. The idle conventional memory should be ensured to be above 625K after booting. If you want a standard MS-DOS 7.10 bootable disk (supporting long file names, CD-ROM drives, etc.), you can download it here: http://www.cn-dos.net/msdos71/msdos71b.zip |

Now we are adding Internet network support to this MS-DOS 7.10 bootable disk, so that the function will be more powerful.

I downloaded the version of March 16th on March 17th. After checking with KV2003, the following report was obtained:
Start time 2003-04-09 09:11:47 Found virus Gorgan.2718 in A:\KPUSH.COM, which has been cleared Normal end. Scan results: Number of files: 154 Number of virus bodies: 1 Deleted: 0 Disinfected: 1 Scanning speed (Kb/sec): 5 Scanning time: 00:02:28 I don't know if站长 Wengier has checked it. Just when posting this thread, I downloaded the latest version of April 6th, 2003, 13:51:52 again, and got the following information: KV Antivirus Report File Beijing Kingsoft New Technology Co., Ltd. Scan engine 7.01.213 Virus database date 2003-04-01 Update date 2003-04-09 Scan target A:\ Start time 2003-04-09 10:28:27 Found virus Gorgan.2718 in A:\KPUSH.COM, virus found Normal end. My current MS-DOS 7.10 boot disk is from April 6th. I think the files on my boot disk should have no viruses. First, I have quite a few up-to-date antivirus software/virus databases under DOS, such as F-PROT, NAV, etc., and they are all okay. The accuracy of KV2003 antivirus is hard to say.

A memory disk is to use XMSDSK to create a memory virtual disk and make use of it, so as to make the usage efficiency higher.

Oh, it turns out it's a virtual disk. There are too many professional terms nowadays, which is a bit confusing.

It is also very simple not to have the DOS boot logo screen. One way is to press the ESC key when the logo appears, and the other way is to change LOGO=1 to LOGO=0 in MSDOS.SYS and delete the LOGO.SYS file.

I think the boot disk should not have a LOGO screen. After all, the space of the floppy disk is limited, and the function should be the main thing.

But the interface is also indispensable. In this way, it can attract everyone to a greater extent and let more people recognize the functions of DOS (the startup LOGO screen of DOS is naturally also a kind of function, not to mention that there are already many other functions in the startup disk besides the LOGO), and then develop DOS. Of course, each person's made startup disk has its own characteristics. Probably because I like a better interface, so I added the startup LOGO.

I agree with the view of post 10, so there is no LOGO in my instant Chinese localization boot disk. Please give more comments.

It is necessary to add a sentence. It depends on people's preferences. Some people like the boot logo, while some don't want the boot logo. Therefore, both types of boot disks should be available (that is, coexist) to meet the needs of these two types of users at the same time.

But does anyone know the way to embed the DOS boot LOGO image file LOGO.SYS directly into IO.SYS to save more than 100K disk space? Thanks for letting me know!
