Instructions for my instant Chinese-localized boot disk
RSDS SUPER BOOTDISK $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ ㈠Origin: Because my English foundation was poor, when I was first learning DOS, looking at a whole screen full of letters made my head feel bigger than a pumpkin. So I had a wish: to make something that could instantly switch between Chinese and English under DOS. But I was too much of a newbie and had no idea how to start. Later I found an old version of Oriental Express 2000 at a friend's place, and treated it like a treasure. Then came the first version of my instant Chinese-localization setup. Few tools and slow speed were its biggest characteristics. The Chinese-language platform used was a slimmed-down version of Tianhui. I still remember that back then, no matter what I tried, I just couldn't make the CD-ROM load at any time on demand. That was in September 2001. ㈡Features Although this disk is based on the Win98 boot disk, because of floppy space limitations it has already been changed beyond recognition. It has the following new features: - Multi-configuration boot menu - Full Chinese and English long filename support -Instant Chinese/English localization switching - NTFS drive support - USB drive support - Powerful antivirus and hard disk repair functions - Load CD-ROM on demand - RAM disk function - Full mouse support - System maintenance functions - Archive support - Graphical file management -Music playback, image viewing ㈢Usage This boot disk has three menu choices. If you choose the first item, it will automatically load the CD-ROM and automatically run the kv3000 tool (antivirus and hard disk repair). The second item enters Chinese mode, opens this instruction file, automatically loads the localization switch, and loads the Pinyin input method. At this time you can type LOCDR to manually load the CD-ROM; by default the CD-ROM is not loaded. After booting the third item, you can view NT partitions and detect USB devices (not including USB flash drives). ㈣List and explanation ASPICD.SYS Generic SCSI/ASPI CD-ROM driver AUTOEXEC.BAT Startup batch file CLOAKING.EXE Program that provides the CLOAKING API for memory, can reduce the memory usage of programs such as MSCDEX COMMAND.COM Command interpreter of R-DOS 7.10. Wengier, have you tried it yet? I have a question: after I choose the third item and run ntfsdos, it can find the NT partition, but it can't read or write it. What is the reason?

That NTFSDOS is read-only, it really can't write.
Also, I want to say that to make DOSLFN support Chinese long filenames, you should use: INSTALLHIGH=DOSLFN.COM /Z:CP936UNI.TBL And remove the line LH DOSLFN /C- /Z:CP963UNI.TBL from AUTOEXEC.BAT, otherwise it is duplicated, and it only supports English long filenames. As for loading USB drivers, you could consider adding programs like USBASPI.SYS and USBCD.SYS to support more USB devices. Also, in CONFIG.SYS: LASTDRIVE=32 and LASTDRIVEHIGH=W these two lines are duplicated, so LASTDRIVEHIGH=W can be removed. |

What do you use to extract *.imz?

IMZ is actually an IMG image file compressed in ZIP format. First use PKUNZIP to extract it, then expand it with HD-COPY/DOSIMG/IMG/UNDISK and that's enough.

Because I didn't do detailed testing, there was a tiny little bug. I'm correcting it now, Open attachment and uploading it for everyone to criticize and correct. Open attachment There's also one more problem I'd like to ask the experts about. If the third option is set up like this, after loading, duse takes 233k and ntfsdos takes 260k, and all the memory gets eaten up. Is there any way to solve this?

Under Windows, imz files can be extracted directly to a floppy disk with winimage.

NTFSDOS shouldn't take 260K, right?! On my machine it's 180K.

It really does take 260k. How could this happen? Please, webmaster, help me take a look at config and autoexec.

Why can't that new RAR file be extracted (when I use UNRAR 3.10(DOS) or RAR 3.11(DOS) to extract it, both say there's a CRC error).
Note: the forum can now upload single attachments up to 1.5M. |

It was made with rar3.2. I can't extract it under DOS either, and I was thinking of posting it online to ask the experts. Forget it, I'll just change it back. Open attachment
