I've got a broadband port and want to get online. CY500, 128M RAM, an 8139C network card, what should I do? Can anyone help me out and give me a CD edition of 98? I still haven't used a CD edition of Win98 up to now. To use it to boot Win98 and get online, you'd need to install the network card driver and do a whole series of network configuration steps (set IP, subnet mask, DNS, gateway, etc.), and to make these settings take effect, you must reboot the computer. Since CDs are read-only and cannot be written to, none of the settings can be saved. If you want a CD with a configuration and network settings already set up to fully match your computer, then it would have to be made by hand.
I previously used Win98 running on a virtual hard disk. Although the system settings could be saved, the system was very unstable, and after rebooting all settings would disappear automatically. |
