For those who came out of DOS, I'm afraid not many don't know the game Colonial Plan.
It's a pity that it's really difficult to relive this game in the world of WIN. First, it can't run under win. (My beloved computer has an integrated graphics card and sound card, a stinky 810+ motherboard)
After a long time, I found two solutions. One is to run in DOS mode (win98 system); the second is to download some DOS simulation tools under windows such as dosbox.
The first solution can run but the image is abnormal and there is no sound but can enter the game: the integrated graphics card is not good, if you want to play this, you have to get another PCI graphics card. : (
The second solution can have sound and pictures, but it automatically exits the program and jumps back to the desktop after running a few times (less than 1 minute).郁闷!
In the end, I searched all over the world for PIC graphics cards and sound cards. Finally, I found a PCI graphics card (I don't remember the name, anyway, it's just an ordinary 2M video memory graphics card) and a YAMAHA724 sound card. Finally, it can run under the first solution. The image is there but there is no sound in the game. I'm dizzy! —%¥—……%
In the end, I could only play Colonial Plan without sound. The yamaha724 sound card and the motherboard don't have SB-Link. I don't know which friend can help solve the problem of no sound. Little brother

You need drivers for the DOS mode, that is, drivers loaded in CONFIG.SYS.

Thanks! It doesn't work. Modifying the configuration file to install the 724DOS driver doesn't work, but other games have sound.

Do I really have to change an old motherboard and sound card just to relive this game? I'm not willing to!

I'm sure I installed DOSBOX under Windows, but it's very unstable. The game exits to the desktop and returns in less than a minute... ~~~~~~ Is there a solution or not?!

Then I'll tell you the most frustrating method: install something like VMware, then install DOS on it, and let the virtual machine simulate an environment with SB16 and S3. Try this game on this DOS. The computer I'm using now is probably slower than the one you simulated, so I can't try it myself^^

hohoho, it's about asking me to install a physical computer to simulate multiple virtual computers, and then use a virtual machine to run this game. This idea might be good, let's try it first. But I feel that the sound might still have some problems.
Thanks in advance!

I tried it, but there are still sound issues!! And the process is too complicated. I still need to see if there are other better ways...

I should be the one who has the right to speak on this issue.
Don't use those virtual machines, the effect is too bad! It反而 spoils the beautiful purity of DOS!

I once spent a lot of experience learning and practicing the sound card of the DOS system. I have more than a dozen old PCI sound cards in my hand, mainly Creative and YAMAHA.
I solved the problem with Creative (25 yuan for one piece, and it's still SB16! Cool, right)
Now the sound card in my computer is it!

Just disable the integrated sound card in the BIOS first, then install Creative, find the DOS driver, which can be downloaded here, it's SBINIT.COM,
After finding these things, install WENGIER's DOS71 directly on 2000 XP, and it will automatically add the boot option. It's very cool
Then in pure DOS, install the driver, and then set the memory according to the needs of the game (in CONFIG.SYS AUTOEXEC.BAT)
Haha, you will play happily.

Remember:
The slightly older Creative sound card (very likely that the new SB LIVE can also make sound in DOS) is very compatible with DOS games!
Get it and it will solve the problem!
I also tried several YAMAHA ones, no way!

You mean install one SB16?? But there doesn't seem to be an ISA slot on the 810 board? Is there? I can't remember

Dude! When did the post above mention ISA?
Clearly it was about PCI!
Oh my god!..
(Also, 8-bit sound cards are also acceptable);

Very old Creative sound cards are ISA slot ones. Using SB16 is certainly no problem because it was once the standard for sound devices. Unlike now, it's so chaotic with no standards, and even the Creative brand has been messed up.
