In XP, if I format a floppy and create an MS-DOS startup disk, is the DOS it boots into pure DOS?
Also, I put FDISK, FORMAT, DISKGEN, and MOUSE onto the boot disk. Why is it that the format command FORMAT can't be used? I'm a newbie, so please help me out. Many, many thanks!!!!!!!!!! |

The DOS startup disk created in XP is actually the same as the startup disk in ME; it's MS-DOS 8.0.

It seems like it says the command can't be found. My English isn't good. Is that normal, or shouldn't there be any problem under normal circumstances?

Then try my Super MS-DOS 7.10 boot disk. It has all kinds of functions in it (such as startup LOGO, long file names, support for NTFS/USB drives, etc.). It also has the FORMAT command in it. download link:
