First use a DOS boot disk to start the computer. You can also hold down the F8 key before entering Windows 98 to open the boot menu and choose 5 to enter pure DOS mode. When you see the A:\> or C:\> prompt, type the command FDISK, then the following screen will appear:
Your computer has a disk larger than 512 MB. This version of Window sincludes improved support for large disks, resulting in more efficientuse of disk space on large drives, and allowing disks over 2 GB to be formatted as a single drive.

IMPORTANT: If you enable large disk support and create any new drives on thisdisk, you will not be able to access the new drive(s) using other operatingsystems, including some versions of Windows 95 and Windows NT, as well as earlier versions of Windows and MS-DOS. In addition, disk utilities that were not designed explicitly for the FAT32 file system will not be able to work with this disk. If you need to access this disk with other operating
systems or older disk utilities, do not enable large drive support.
Do you wish to enable large disk support (Y/N)...........?

It roughly says:
This version of Windows supports large hard disks. If you use large disk support, you will not be able to use the Windows 95 and Windows NT operating systems, as well as earlier Windows and MS-DOS.
Do you want to use large disk support…………………………….?

If you choose “Y”, the file system after partitioning will be FAT32; if you choose “N”, the file system after partitioning will be FAT16. As long as you are not going to install MS-DOS 6.22 (or an earlier version) or NT, just press “Y” and hit Enter.

Next we go to the next screen, the main menu of FDISK:
FDISK Options
Current fixed disk drive: 1 current hard disk drive

Choose one of the following: choose one of the following

1. Create DOS partition or Logical DOS Drive 1. create DOS partition or logical DOS drive

2. Set active partition 2. set active partition
3. Delete partition or Logical DOS Drive 3. delete partition or logical DOS drive
4. Display partition information 4. display partition information

Enter choice: enter choice:

Suppose we now want to create partitions. We choose 1 and press Enter, then we enter the Create DOS Partition menu
:
Create DOS Partition or Logical DOS Drive
Current fixed disk drive: 1

Choose one of the following: choose one of the following

1. Create Primary DOS Partition 1. create primary DOS partition
2. Create Extended DOS Partition 2. create extended DOS partition
3. Create Logical DOS Drive(s) in the Extended DOS Partition
3. create logical DOS drive(s) in the extended DOS partition
Enter choice:

Suppose we have a new hard disk here. Then we first need to create a primary DOS partition and then create an extended DOS partition. If not, it will be impossible to create the partitions. After pressing 1 and hitting Enter, the program will scan the hard disk space, then display the total capacity of the whole hard disk in M (100%), and in parentheses the percentage of the hard disk that is still free. There is a line of English below meaning: enter the size of the primary DOS partition, in M or as a percentage of the hard disk capacity. Enter a number in the brackets after it, for example or a percentage , then press Enter and the primary DOS partition will be created, which is usually drive C:. Next you can choose 2 to create the extended partition, for example by entering or a percentage . Generally, all the remaining hard disk space is made into the extended partition. The numbers here are only examples! Next we should create the logical drives. The creation method is basically the same. What is worth noting is that when creating logical drives, the total capacity shown by the program is the capacity of the extended partition, that is, when we divide logical partitions, the extended partition is counted as 100%.

The above is the whole process of creating partitions, and the order cannot be reversed. After creating the partitions, there is one more thing we need to do, which is activate the partition. Choose menu item 2 Set active partition. After pressing Enter, you will get the following screen:
Set Active Partition
Current fixed disk drive: 1

Partition Status Type Volume Label Mbytes System Usage
C: 1 A PRI DOS WINDO~198 1024 FAT32 5%
2 EXT DOS 19456 85%
Total disk space is 20480 Mbytes
Enter the number of the partition you want to make active...........:
Enter the number of the partition you want to make active...........:

After entering the number 1 here, drive C: will be activated!

At this point, the partition creation work for the entire hard disk is complete. Now you can press the Esc key to exit FDISK. When exiting the program, you will get a prompt telling you to restart and then perform formatting. At this time you must restart the computer first, and only then can you format!
The above is the complete procedure for creating partitions!
Next let’s talk about deleting partitions. The steps for deleting partitions are exactly the reverse of creating them. Creating partitions means first creating the primary DOS partition, then the extended DOS partition, and finally the logical partition; but when deleting partitions, you must first delete the logical partition, then the extended DOS partition, and only then can you delete the primary DOS partition!

On the main menu, type 3 and press Enter, and we will get the following menu:
Delete DOS Partition or Logical DOS Drive
Choose one of the following:
1. Delete Primary DOS Partition 1. delete primary DOS partition
2. Delete Extended DOS Partition 2. delete extended DOS partition
3. Delete Logical DOS Drive(s) in the Extended DOS Partition
3. delete logical DOS drive(s) in the extended DOS partition
4. Delete Non-DOS Partition 4. delete non-DOS partition

First delete the logical partition. Type 3 and press Enter. You will see a list of logical partitions. There is a warning line in English below, roughly meaning that all data on the logical drive being deleted will be lost.
Which drive do you want to delete…………………………….
What drive do you want to delete...............................?
After entering the drive name and pressing Enter, such as F, the system will ask you to enter the volume label of that drive.
For example, if our drive volume label is TEST, enter it and press Enter.
Enter Volume Label..............................?
The system will ask you once again to confirm whether to delete this drive. Press “Y” and Enter to complete deletion of the logical partition.
Are you sure (Y/N)..............................?
Then repeat the above steps to delete the logical drives one by one. The methods for deleting the extended partition and the primary partition are the same.
In addition, if there is a Non-DOS partition, you can also delete it in the same way, except that you choose 4 in the Delete Partition menu.

-----------------------------------
You can also use the partitioning tool Partition Magic. It has a Chinese version, a graphical interface, and is very easy to use. It does not damage the original system, so you can try it too!
