Creating a Multi-Boot System with Windows XP and MS-DOS, Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me
Note: You cannot install both Windows 95 and Windows 98 in the same multi-boot configuration. Windows 98 is regarded as an upgrade to Windows 95, and it will try to use the same boot files.
You should install Windows XP after installing MS-DOS, Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me, to prevent those operating systems from overwriting the Windows XP boot sector and Windows XP startup files.
Creating a Multi-Boot System with Windows XP and MS-DOS, Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me
1. Make sure the hard disk is formatted with the correct file system.2. Install multiple operating systems on different volumes in the following order: MS-DOS, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, and then Windows XP.3. Do one of the following:
•If you want a system that can multi-boot MS-DOS, Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me together with Windows XP, first install MS-DOS, Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me, and then install Windows XP.•If you only want a dual-boot system including one of Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me, first install Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me, and then install Windows XP. Install each operating system according to the standard installation steps.
