I urgently need a Win98 DOS boot disk that can start TCP/IP and support network drive mapping. I did this before in diskless Win95 (98), but now I've forgotten how. My NIC is the realek8139C series.
Also, does Ghost support backing up to a mapped drive? My system partition is an NTFS partition, and I want to back it up to the server, but I don't want to use GHOST's network boot disk to start the server, so I want to use this method instead. I wonder how everyone else handles this.
My email is xxlwsj@163.com。

The simplest method should be to use an os winpe from Microsoft.
It's a boot disk put on a CD, and it uses the XP kernel.

It supports networking, supports NTFS, is fully 32-bit, and doesn't even support 16-bit programs.
It supports some GUI programs, etc.

It needs to be burned onto a CD.

Thanks, but ghost is a 16-bit program. I can't download the software above.

There are a lot of programs of this kind. The image disks used when booting with BOOTP, PXE, etc. all use this kind of floppy disk image. If you're interested, search online for “diskless”; there are many boot disks with very distinctive features.
Note: floppy disk images booted with BOOTP cannot be unpacked with ordinary software. First use WinHex to remove the 4096-byte header, then use “undisk” under DOS to extract it. Remember, HD-COPY and the like won't work.

You can also use the EDIT command in MS-DOS 7.x to delete the file header of a binary file. I made a dedicated TCP/IP boot disk before; I think someday I'll make a general-purpose TCP/IP boot disk for DOS.

Thanks, everyone. I've already made one with NETSETUP. Aside from things like changing the hostname, account, and IP address being rather troublesome, it works pretty well. I can now put GHOST images of NTFS partitions onto the server. It's very suitable for remote backup for Windows 2000\XP users. If anyone needs it, I can sort it out and upload it.

Making a general-purpose network boot disk really would be nice. I want to make one too; it would definitely be very convenient to use that way.

This kind of disk is included in the boot CD I made. Everyone can go take a look at www.gupin.com, I uploaded it there.

As for ghost, if you have ghost 2003 installed, choose the TCP/IP method and you can set up a boot disk with network support. Of course, you'll need a DOS NIC driver. Not long ago I happened to use this method to install an old laptop—no CD-ROM drive, only a floppy drive and NIC—and it wasn't any slower than installing from CD.
