China DOS Union

I replaced the COMMAND of MSDOS with the compressed FREEDOS COMMAND (63k). I specified SHELL=COMMAND.COM, and all operations are normal. It also has the built-in DOSKEY function. After startup, it only takes 3K of memory, which is very useful. However, DOSLFN doesn't work, which is quite a pity. It would be great if DOSLFN could support other DOS systems.

It is not that DOSLFN does not support other DOSes, but that the COMMAND.COM of FreeDOS does not support long filename calls. Only when COMMAND.COM itself supports the long filename function can DOSLFN be used normally. COMMAND.COM that supports long filename calls includes COMMAND.COM in MS-DOS 7.x and COMMAND.COM in DR-DOS 7.01+ and above versions. While other DOSes, such as COMMAND.COM in MS-DOS 6.22, PC-DOS, and FreeDOS, do not support the long filename function, so DOSLFN cannot be effective in these environments.

If COMMAND cannot be compressed, it should be okay to use other DOS COMMANDs instead.

The biggest feature of COMMAND (FreeCOM) in FreeDOS is that it can be compressed, for example, with UPX.

Who has compressed Microsoft's command.com?

Many compression software can't compress MS's command.com. I have two wishes: one is to compress COMMAND.COM, and the other is to remove the LOGO in IO.SYS.
