Let me ask:
I just finished upgrading these past two days. I don't really want to haggle, so the prices below are what the dealers charged me.

Hard drive, IDE, 20G, added an 80G one (Maxtor DiamondMax 9, boxed genuine product, 570). People online say that after using it for a while, it gets noisy, like firecrackers? Is it really that exaggerated? Is it true?

Memory, 256MB (SDRAM), added another 256 (SDRAM, KINGSTON, boxed genuine product, 430 yuan!!!! No choice, if you want to upgrade SD memory, you can only let the dealers butcher you hard with one cut!)

DVD burner, I originally wanted to buy BENQ's DW1620, 680. I've used it before and it was pretty good, but then I saw people online saying it was junk and had ruined a lot of discs, which scared me into changing my mind and becoming a traitor, so I bought a Pioneer instead (109, 795). My feeling is, when closing the tray door, it always goes "bang", and somehow it doesn't seem as good as the BENQ. The BENQ made no sound. I feel like I've been taken.

Power supply, Century Star, actually it was pretty good. Maybe because I didn't pay attention, for a long time after shutting down the computer I didn't switch off the power supply, and some time ago it suddenly started making a crazy noise when powering on, so it had to be replaced. I bought a Huntkey Calm King Diamond Edition (210).

Read it!! Made me laugh! You're just like me, a lover of antiques. I really didn't want to discourage you, but I'm not too optimistic about items 1, 2, and 3 either!

Brother GOTOmsdos, my situation is very similar to yours! During winter break I also bought an 80G DiamondMax 9 hard drive and some memory. My DiamondMax hard drive was an OEM unit, only 470. Those so-called firecracker-like loud noises are just some individual comments and don't mean all DiamondMax drives are the same. My drive is very quiet, hehe. How are there still boxed SD memory sticks now? I bought a 128M HY for 150 yuan. Things are precious when they're scarce!

Hehe! Hello to both Qiaopangniu and Brother Cat!
Brother Cat, we're about the same, haha..
Let me ask, how long have you been using your DiamondMax 9 80G hard drive? A short time doesn't count..
My original hard drive was from 2001, and it's been used until now without a single problem. And it makes no noise at all. So I really trust Maxtor.
I've noticed some machines always make some big-and-little noise at startup (like mice gnawing rice...), but when my machine starts up, apart from one short loud sound there's almost no noise. So I really trust Maxtor. When upgrading, I didn't even consider other brands at all..
This time, upgrading the memory was obviously getting ripped off, no choice! I'm just an absolute perfectionist! I can't tolerate the slightest regret!
Because my original stick was KINGSTON's, they had to match.
If the store didn't have it then fine, but there it was lying there in plain sight. If I didn't take it home, wouldn't that be breaking up a loving couple! The price doesn't matter,,,
Qiaopangniu, seems like you haven't come to the forum much lately?

Better to buy Seagate.... Maxtor's operating temperature is 2~5 degrees higher than other brands, it might burn up your 20GB drive

Qiaopangniu?? Are you talking about me? How awful!!! Look carefully, I'm male!! If my internet speed were a bit faster, just see how I'd deal with you!!
I actually also want very much to come online often, but my internet speed has to be measured in bytes. Opening one page takes at least five minutes. I have 1 meg broadband! The fact that I can show my face now proves I still haven't disappeared from the planet, and I'm already very satisfied!!
