EMM386 provides expanded memory as well as UMB memory, which is more useful.

The boot disk made by Wengier has the function of providing protected mode. Only in protected mode can 32-bit programs be used, such as programs compiled with DJGPP, and 32-bit RAR, etc. To start Win9x, protected mode must be used, but generally, Win9x will automatically provide protected mode when it starts. In addition, CWSDPMI and so on built in DJGPP can also provide protected mode, which is much better than EMM386.

What is DJGPP? I'm too noob, please give me some pointers. Also, isn't there a RAR for DOS? Why do we have to use 32-bit ones?
