I need to play some old games, and they can only run under Win32, so I made a Win32 system with a VPC virtual machine. But it turns out it can't detect the CD-ROM drive. Hoping an expert can point me in the right direction.

CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT are missing the CD-ROM driver. You need the CD-ROM driver files, such as VIDE-CDD.SYS and SHSUCDX.EXE from an MSDOS 7.1 boot disk, or OAKCDROM.SYS and MSCDEX.EXE from Win98. Put them in a specific folder, such as C:\win32, then modify C:\CONFIG.SYS and add a line: DEVICEHIGH=C:\WIN32\VIDE-CDD.SYS /D:IDE-CD
Then add the line LH C:\WIN32\SHSUCDX /D:IDE-CD to AUTOEXEC.BAT. Reboot and the CD-ROM drive should work.
