If DOS wants to regain its former glory, there is only one path: it must be able to load WINDOWS or LINUX device drivers, and provide a 16-bit programming interface, something like INT21H. I think this is the key technology DOS must develop in the future. To put it plainly, this is what the OP called "configurable." Without it, there is only a dead end. Java, GUI, and so on must all be built on this foundation. Without this foundation, if the network card is only 8139 and the graphics card is only 256 colors, how can it keep up with the development of the times? Multi-CPU and multitasking are too difficult; there is no need to do that. Real-time has an advantage. If there is a breakthrough in this area, it can still be used in the future embedded industrial control field.
