I am a win2000 machine, and the administrator password is lost. My computer can't boot. I heard that there is a kind of DOS thing that can crack the administrator password. Can someone tell me what that DOS thing is? Thank you, everyone.

Is the system in FAT32 format?
When booting from the boot disk into the system, rename SAM in winnt\system32\config\SAM, SAM.log to SAM1, SAM.lo_ Or directly delete it! After restarting, the password of Administrator is empty. If the system is NTFS Use O&O Bluecon2000 : set the password of Administrator to 123456 or ERD Commander ... |

If the system is in FAT32 format, what kind of boot disk is it? I don't understand. Can the moderator explain it clearly?

For FAT32, you can use a Win98 or DOS 7.1 bootable disk.

Any computer that can boot up will do! Regardless of CD-ROM or floppy disk, boot to DOS, then: del c:\winnt\system32\config\sam and then restart the computer, log in with Administrator, and the password is empty. If it doesn't work, change the above to: del c:\winnt\system32\config\sam*.*

The following is a quote from JonePeng's post on 2004-8-16 21:31:12: Simply format a disk with "format a: /q /s" or sys a: a new disk. |

It is best to boot the system with an ERD Commander bootable disc and then directly modify the administrator password. If you delete the sam, does it mean that all users are deleted?

Just delete all users' names and passwords, but keep the users' profiles (start menu shortcuts, favorites, etc.), right?

Here is the speech of JonePeng on 2004-8-17 17:41:51: That's right! You just need to find it in the corresponding folder. |

Thanks everyone. I have found these two files under WINXP, but it prompts that they are used by other programs and cannot be opened. Depressed. I don't want to delete the password. May I ask if I can use some software under DOS to open them so as to view their contents? Thanks!
