I originally thought this forum was here to serve us newbies, to get more people to support and use DOS, but after browsing around like crazy for several days, there still wasn't a single person answering us newbies on the most basic question of "how to install DOS"! — even though quite a few people have asked this question! The most detailed answer only told us that if you already have 98 installed, then you don't need to install DOS separately. Can't you experts imagine that what we urgently need to know is how to install DOS, rather than being satisfied with the DOS already inside 98! For example, I found a Chinese version of DOS 6.22 on this site. I need to install that version. How should I install it?
Sorry, maybe it's impolite to complain like this while asking others for advice. My apologies! But I hope you can understand! I especially hope the moderator can sort out and answer these basic questions above and pin them, so that newbies can come in and find treasure right away!
Thank you!

Even back in the age when DOS was popular, we first learned how to use DOS commands and applications, and only then started installing DOS ourselves.
Although installing DOS sounds simple, explaining it clearly is not an easy matter.
If you want to install DOS, at the very least you must learn how to operate at the DOS command line. And you need to master the use of tools like FDISK, FORMAT, HD-COPY, and understand the differences between FAT16/FAT32, etc.

Of course we are not satisfied with the DOS in Win98, but rather with the true pure MS-DOS 7.10, and we hope to keep developing it.

I'm a DOS newbie, what I'm saying is only my personal opinion
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The simplest DOS system has only 3 system files: io.sys,msdos.sys ,command.com.
If your C drive has only these three files, then after booting into DOS, this system is very simple (functionally).
If you want this DOS system to be powerful, then you have to copy some DOS external commands and software to your hard drive.
Installing DOS:
1)If you do not have Windows installed, just use a floppy disk to boot into DOS, then format c: /s , and that will copy those 3 system files to the C drive. That alone is enough to install the simplest DOS system, (isn't it simple). Of course, to make this DOS system a bit better, you still need to configure the config.sys and autoexec.bat files.
2)If you already have Windows installed, a better method is:

Well said. Actually, installing a simple DOS operating system really is this simple. But if you want to install a more advanced DOS system, then some configuration is needed, such as modifying files like CONFIG.SYS. You may as well take a look at the MS-DOS 7.10 boot disk I made:

Of course our DOS forum is here to serve everyone. As long as a member raises a question, everyone will do their best to answer it.

Also, if it is the installation edition of the Chinese version of MS-DOS 6.22, just run the SETUP command inside it and follow the prompts. But you must pay attention: MS-DOS 6.x does not support long file names, FAT32, or large hard disks, so it cannot recognize a lot of the contents on the hard disk and may damage the hard disk.

One more thing: what Wengier meant in the last sentence above by “damage the hard disk” is that DOS 622 will damage the original long-file-name directories and file structure on the hard disk, but it will not actually destroy data or physically damage the hard disk.

Big Dimple: I don't know your purpose in installing DOS. If it's for learning or just to experience it, then install a virtual machine. On a 9x system use VPC; on an NT system choose either VPC or VMware, then install DOS inside the virtual machine.
If you want to use a dual-system setup, then don't consider 6.22. It doesn't support FAT32, and I guess your system is FAT32.

Teamwork !

Thank you, experts. I thought installing WINDOWS was relatively easy, and people even say installing LINUX is rather difficult, yet I can handle those easily, so I underestimated installing DOS and thought it would be a piece of cake. I didn't expect there to be so much to it! Thank you all for your enthusiastic replies. Once again, I apologize for my rashness and for misunderstanding everyone! And I hope you'll all continue to look after me in the future! Thank you!
