This thing will occasionally pop up by itself. If you don't close it in time, the only thing you can do is reboot again, otherwise forget about using the computer.
I've searched several times and couldn't find anything at all. Does anyone have a way to track it down and shut it off completely? |

Try this:
Start - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - misrosoft office 2000 premium - Add/Remove - Add or Remove Features - under Office Tools, Converters, and Filters, set everything to not install, and you can remove the file optimizer. |

Nobody uses it, it runs out by itself, and you can't find it in the startup programs. If you don't believe it, install OFFICE2K and try it yourself.

Start/Programs/Startup/delete it there and it won't pop up again. After I deleted it, I never saw it run again.

In the end I found the solution in an inconspicuous corner of Computer News: just delete its main file.
