Dear friend: My computer doesn't have a floppy drive. There are DI.EXE; DOSIMG.EXE; HD-COPY; and other software that can extract.IMG files in drive D. Now I want to use any of these software to extract DOS710.IMG in drive D to folder D:/A. Please tell me how to operate in WINDOWS or DOS? Could you give a detailed explanation? For example, the question "How to operate in DOS?" is really not skillful. There are many things that can be operated in DOS. You should clearly indicate in the title: How to extract the IMG file of a floppy disk under DOS? There are many formats of IMG files. The floppy disk image made by HD-COPY is not a standard floppy disk image format. You can use undisk (or undisk pro, which is a command-line program under DOS) to extract it. Another type is the standard floppy disk image format, for example, the floppy disk image made by WinImage (the DOS710.IMG you mentioned is this type of standard floppy disk image format). You can use WinImage (must be used under Windows) to extract it. I don't know much about what tools in the DOS command line can be used to extract standard floppy disk image files (or undisk can also be used). After understanding these, you should already be clear about how to extract dos710.img.

"IMG files come in many formats" Actually, HD-COPY supports two types of non-compressed IMG formats and compressed IMG formats (you can choose whether to compress in the HD-COPY settings). The IMG format created by WinImage is non-compressed, so it cannot support compressed IMG formats (note: this does not refer to compressing IMG into a ZIP, i.e., IMZ files; IMZ and the compressed IMG made by HD-COPY are two different things). UNDISK and DOSIMG support all IMG formats of HD-COPY, that is, they can support both compressed and non-compressed IMG formats (non-compressed IMG format is the default format of WinImage).

You mentioned the new version of hd-copy? I haven't used the new version of hd-copy, only used the DOS version of hd-copy (2.3R). As I know, the HD-COPY made under DOS is not in the standard floppy image format (whether the so-called compressed and non-compressed). The so-called non-standard is: cannot be used to make a bootable CD. While WinImage made the image format has two types: IMA (ie IMG, is the standard image format), IMZ is compressed, as for how a compression method, we don't understand. Also, WinImage seems can also make the image into a self-extracting format, but I haven't used it.

I'm not talking about the new version of HD-COPY, but just DOS-based HD-COPY 2.x. In the settings of HD-COPY, there are options to choose whether to use compressed or uncompressed IMG format. The so-called compressed IMG actually means that the blank parts (i.e., the unused parts) on the floppy disk are not written to the image file (so it cannot be directly used as a CD image file), which saves disk space; the uncompressed IMG means that all contents on the floppy disk (including blank parts) are all written, so the size of the uncompressed IMG image of a standard 3.5-inch floppy disk is always 1.44MB. Anyway, HD-COPY supports both types of IMG images, while WinImage only supports the latter, that is, the uncompressed one. The only floppy disk image format that WinImage can truly create is the uncompressed IMG format (self-extraction is not counted here). The so-called IMZ I have already said is actually a ZIP version of IMG, that is, IMG + ZIP. IMZ can be unpacked with ZIP software such as PKUNZIP, WinZip, etc. After unpacking, it is the standard floppy disk image format IMG. In other words,.IMZ is just a ZIP with the extension changed.
