COPY is an internal command, while XCOPY and XXCOPY are external commands; COPY and XCOPY come with DOS, while XXCOPY is third-party; COPY has the fewest parameters, XCOPY comes next, and XXCOPY has the most.

Not really, I guess you could put it that way too. COPY is for copying files, while XCOPY can be used to copy directories, and of course files too. XXCOPY seems to be an enhanced version of XCOPY, just my personal view.
