My computer originally had Windows XP installed. Later, without repartitioning, I installed Red Hat directly. As a result, Windows XP was overwritten, and now I can't find the original Windows XP partitions at all. I used fixmbr to repair the master boot record, but I still couldn't find the original partitions under DOS. Since I have some important things on the HDD and don't want to lose them because of this, I don't know whether there is still any way. Please give me some advice, experts. I would be extremely grateful.

Was WinXP installed on an NTFS partition? If so, install DOS first, then run NTFSDOS.

No, it was FAT32. When I ran fdisk, I only found one active non-dos partition, and didn't find anything else. Is there any other way then, moderator?

If it's FAT32, then use MS-DOS 7.10 or ROM-DOS 7.10 to boot the computer and you'll be able to see the FAT32 partition. Older versions of DOS (such as MS-DOS 6.x) do not support FAT32 partitions.

After you choose automatic installation in Red Hat, it repartitions the disk. All the previous partitions will be overwritten. If your important files were on the original C drive, the chance of recovery is extremely low, because they were very likely already overwritten. You'd better ask those antivirus companies for help; they have more experience dealing with this kind of problem. But it costs money (if you think those files are worth that much).

I only want the things from non-C drives, like D and E. Many thanks, wengier.

Learn how to ask questions first.
Change your post title to something better. In the future, posts with titles like this may end up with only these three outcomes: 1。No one responds. (This is the best case.) 2。It gets moved to the off-topic section. 3。It gets deleted. |
