Moderator, please save me. . .
1。Do you have any DOS instant messaging software that stays resident in memory for download over there?? 2。Do you have any software over there that can turn DOS622 or DOS7X into a terminal of WIN2000? I downloaded that software in your network tools, but it can't generate a terminal disk. . 3。I found four executable files of MICROSOFT LAN MANAGER, but when executing the 2nd EXE file, it asks whether to overwrite the PROCOL。INI file?? I'm very puzzled. Could it be that there are two identical files with the same name in that archive? I feel that package seems to have been compressed with PKZIP. . . but that file is an executable file. . . ??? Please save me. . . thanks!!! |

That last one should be a PKZIP self-extracting archive, so it's supposed to extract files.
As for instant messaging software under DOS, I haven't heard of any, though Meng Weiheng and others did make a simple chat program on NOVELL. |

As for instant messaging software under DOS, there's LSICQ. But it can't compare with QQ.

First of all, thanks to the friend in the post above and the moderator!
Moderator, where can LSICQ be downloaded? Did you see the EMAIL I sent you? The four executable files for MICROSOFT LAN MANAGER were downloaded by me from ftp.microsoft.com, so there shouldn't be any problem, but how could there be two identical files during self-extraction?? Dizzy, I'm really getting dizzy!! A few more questions: Question 1: When using MSCIENT3.0, I read your article about networking under DOS and learned that the net command has the share parameter, but when I use the net command myself it doesn't have that parameter,, what's going on?? Question 2: Right now I want to share out the files on my DOS 6.22 workstation, but I don't want to use NOVELL. As for that netwarelite1.0, after I downloaded it and ran startnet.bat, it said something about an error running the share command. In fact, after the installation was completed and before running startnet.bat, I searched the entire hard disk, but I still couldn't find the share command mentioned in startnet.bat!!! What exactly is going on here?? Is there a problem with the archive, or a problem with the installation?? |

LSICQ download address:
http://members.tripod.com/~ladsoft/lsicq/DOWNLOAD/LSICQ.ZIP As for MSLANMAN, I didn't find any duplicate files when I downloaded it, so you might as well try again. As for MSCLIENT, if you want the NET SHARE command, you need to download the third file, then overwrite the original NET command. As for the SHARE command, SHARE is the file-sharing command that comes with MS-DOS 6.x/7.0, not something from NetWare. |

Thanks, moderator,
why can't the LSICQ.ZIP address you gave be downloaded?! The MICROSOFT LAN MANAGER download address you gave me last time was for MSCLIENT3.0.. ![]() ![]() ![]() Later, I found another address myself to download it from, but I never expected this to happen. So just tell me your download address for that MICROSOFT LAN MANAGER,,, thanks!! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I think these addresses should work:
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/Clients/lanman/DSK3-1.EXE ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/Clients/lanman/DSK3-2.EXE ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/Clients/lanman/DSK3-3.EXE ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/Clients/lanman/DSK3-4.EXE |

Hehehehe, moderator, those were exactly the four files I downloaded before, and the download addresses were the same too. Looks like there really is no way around it,, you can try it yourself and see whether it works?? Let's put that aside for now. What I'm most concerned about now is how a DOS workstation can receive messages sent by WIN9X and WIN2000. MSCLIENT3.0 can share out the files on the DOS workstation, but it still can't receive messages sent by WIN9X or WIN2000. I turned on its POP_UP function and it still didn't work (the WINNT book said that turning on this function would make it work. Mine is WIN2000 SERVER. I chose Send Console Message in Computer Management, and the result was unsuccessful. I haven't tried NT, but I did try WIN9X and that didn't work either. My network is peer-to-peer.)
Besides MSCLIENT3.0, I also tried nwlite1.0. I only know that it can be used to make a peer-to-peer network with WIN. I'm using an ne2000 network card and the DOS622 operating system. In msclient3.0 my network card driver is ne2000.dos. When installing nwlite1.0, for the network card I selected the NOVELL/EA......................NE2000 item. Later I also tried all the other NE2000-related items, and none of them worked. After installation, when I run the startnet.bat file, the prompt information is as follows: NetWare Link Support Layer v1.10 (910625) (C) Copyright 1991 Novell, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Novell NE2000 Ethernet MLID v1.34 (910603) (C) Copyright 1991 Novell, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Int 3, Port 300, Node Address 4ACAC5563 Max Frame 1514 bytes, Line Speed 10 Mbps Board 1, Frame ETHERNET_802.3 NetWare IPX (C) Copyright 1991 Novell, Inc. All Rights Reserved. IPX protocol bound to NE2000 MLID Board #1. NetWare Lite Server - Version 1.0 Copyright (c) 1991, Novell, Inc. All Rights Reserved. server.exe was loaded successfully. NetWare Lite Client - Version 1.0 Copyright (C) 1991, Novell Inc. All rights reserved CLIENT.EXE was loaded successfully. After that, when I type the command net login supervisor or just net, the cursor stays blinking in the lower left corner of the screen, and no matter how long I wait the computer gives no response at all. Later I did the same thing on another DOS622 machine, and again there was no response at all. I don't know where the problem is. Moderator, can you help explain it? Actually, I think it would be so nice if MSCLIENT3.0 could receive messages from WIN, then I wouldn't have to change the current network. It would be even better if this NET had some SEND parameter like NOVELL does. It's because it can't receive messages from WIN that I thought of the NWLITE1.0 you recommended. Please help me,, Mr. Moderator.. hehe.. no matter what software it is, as long as it can make DOS622 receive messages from WIN I'll be very grateful. If it can also send messages, that would be even better. I've looked for a lot and tried a lot, and I really have no solution..... |

MSLANMAN can receive messages sent from WIN. Yesterday I officially installed MSLANMAN, using exactly the download addresses I mentioned, and after configuration everything worked normally.

I'm not very familiar with MSLANMAN, and I don't really want to use it. Mainly I still want to use NWLITE or MSCLIENT,, besides,
MSLANMAN is too large, and I don't know what its memory usage is after running. I need to run a very large database program on the DOS workstation,, and I'm afraid it will affect it. NWLITE or MSCLIENT is simpler, it's just that I can't figure out what's going on with my NWLITE,, what kind of problem do you think it could be... If possible, provide one for me.. :):),, teach me step by step....。:):):)。。。。 I've read your articles, but when I actually run it, it just doesn't work... |

Those articles were all written by me alone, so they aren't "your articles". It's true that MSLANMAN takes up quite a lot of conventional memory, often more than 300K in total, while MSCLIENT or NWLITE is much smaller.
