There are MS-DEFRAG in MSDOS 6.22 and PC-DEFRAG in PCDOS. But unfortunately neither supports FAT32 partitions. Also, Norton Utilities has a similar program, but it doesn't support FAT32 partitions either.

Doesn't support FAT31???? Then what do I do??? Is there any other way???

No, for now I still haven't found a DOS disk defragmentation/optimization tool that supports FAT32.

There is, however, a DEFRAG for Win3.x that supports FAT32 and long filenames.

This for Win 3.x defrag always says my disk is locked by another program and can't continue. It gives the same message even when defragmenting a floppy disk, so that's basically the same as being unusable.
But Norton Speedisk for Win3.2 can defragment just fine for me.

Michael, that shouldn't be the case. How come I've never seen that message? Could it be a wrong setting?

What setting? I didn't see any special settings in it.
Could it be a problem with my Windows? Then why does my Speedisk for Win3.x work fine??

I just tested this for Win3.x DEFRAG that supports FAT32 and long filenames again. I suspect you're using it under DOS 6.22 + Win3.x, right? (I just specifically tried it under DOS 6.22 + Win3.2 and sure enough got the disk locked error message.) This DEFRAG should be used under MS-DOS 7.10 + Win3.x, and cannot be used under older DOS versions.

What Wengier said is right. DOS 6.22 itself doesn't support FAT32, so how could other software be made to support FAT32 on top of it?

The so-called long filename support of 4dos+dos6.22 is only maintained through descript.ion anyway.... calmira can also display this kind of long filename.

Besides supporting Win9x-format long filenames and FAT32 partitions, MS-DOS 7.10 also supports functions such as "disk locking," while 6.22 does not. So the for Win3.x DEFRAG can only be used under MS-DOS 7.10 + Win3.x, and cannot be used under older DOS versions (please note that old DOS versions have very poor compatibility with newer DOS software). Michael, don't you have 7.10? So why are you instead using Win3.x + DEFRAG under an older DOS version, and then saying it can't be used? (I really find that strange, since it works perfectly fine here.)

Of course I have 7.10, and 7.10 and 6.22 coexist on the same FAT16 partition. I sometimes also run Windows under 7.10, but when exiting, I have to do cd\windows, otherwise it says file allocation table error.
Besides, Windows 3.1 doesn't support long filenames. I'm only playing around with it anyway. I'm afraid it might accidentally damage the long filenames on my other partitions, so I only want it to recognize my FAT16 partition that doesn't have long filenames. So most of the time I run Windows 3.11 under 6.22.
