Why is it that when embedding assembly under bc3.1, I can't use instructions like eax, for example

asm xor eax,eax
}

Because the assembly in bc uses the 8086 instruction set, and the 8086 does not have the eax register (though it seems the 80x86 instruction set can be used if you add some compiler options; I don't remember very clearly).

To use the 80386 instruction set, just set “Instruction Set” under “Advanced Code Generation” in the “Options” menu of Borland C to 80386.
