Dear all experts, I originally compiled an application program with mfoxplus under DOS, and it is still in use. After upgrading to Windows 98, this program (Chinese is UCDOS 70) can be run directly in the Windows 98 interface. However, since the Windows 98 system is very unstable, I want to switch to Windows 2000 or XP. But I have tried many methods and can't run this DOS program under Windows 2000 or XP. I even tried using a virtual machine, and the result is disappointing. Please, all experts, how to run the DOS program directly under the Windows 2000 or XP interface. I don't need dual-booting, I need to run it directly under Windows 2000 or XP. Thanks!!!

I use VirtualPC v5.2 Chinese localized version to create a DOS environment, and UCDOS runs normally. But when entering the FoxPlus application, it freezes. I tried adjusting config.sys and autoexec.bat environments without success. What should I do?

Which version of the DOS environment are you using? Did you download the "MS-DOS 7.10 Complete Installation Edition" here:

It is possible that there is an issue with your MFOXPLUS program. That program is too old. Why not upgrade it? Even upgrading to FOXPRO 2.6 for DOS version is fine.

If the original poster has read "Computer Fan" magazine, please take a look at the first to fourth issues this year. I can't remember which specific issue it is. There is an issue that introduced a software that allows you to run old DOS programs under XP, 2000, and 2003 systems. Please find it yourself. Don't scold me for being lazy and not telling you specific information, because I can't remember either.

Thanks to the two upstairs for their replies. Some commands in FOXPRO 2.6 for DOS are incompatible. The program was compiled by Dalian Yaqi. Moreover, after running ucdos, FOXPRO 2.6 for DOS simply can't run under the virtual machine. Poor 640K base memory, how can it be enough? I'll look for "Computer Enthusiast", but I don't have it at hand. Can you tell me the name of the software? I don't want it to be vfloppy. If it's dual-boot, the problem would have been solved long ago. I don't want that. Thanks everyone!

Try changing the virtual machine, such as VMWare, Bochs, etc. If it still doesn't work, you can only install DOS additionally to make a dual boot.

VMWare has been used, but it doesn't work either. Bochs hasn't been tried yet. It seems there are few introductions, so it can be tried. If it really doesn't work, there's no choice but to resign oneself to fate.

You can open the Command Prompt program, and enter start /separate "path where the program is located". Note that you don't need to enter the quotation marks. You can also enter start /? under the Command Prompt to view the detailed usage of the command.

I wonder if this is suitable for you?
Make Win2000 compatible with all programs! Everyone knows that Windows 2000 is based on the NT architecture. Many applications for Win9X cannot run normally under Windows 2000, and the compatibility is not very good. As a result, many users still use WIN98 or install a dual system now. In fact, Windows 2000 has already considered the compatibility problem of applications. In Windows 2000, there is a system tool called Application Compatibility Tool (by default, Windows 2000 does not install this system tool. You can find it in the Support directory of the installation CD, an executable file named Apcompat.exe). It can temporarily simulate other operating systems on the Windows 2000 system, such as Win9x/NT (SP3, SP4, SP5), so that some programs that originally could not run on Windows 2000 can run normally. |
