I want to copy all the contents of the XP installation CD onto the hard disk (not install it), but it says it can't be copied. How can I copy it over?

Try using the XCOPY command.

You can enter pure DOS mode and type the XCOPY command under C：\

The poster above is right, making it into an iso file is better, but do you have a virtual CD-ROM drive under DOS????

wemgier has introduced a method for using a virtual CD-ROM drive under DOS. ZCOPY is also very useful. Its /N parameter can copy only new files, which is a big help if you want to continue a copy from last time.

Yes, I did introduce a method for using a virtual CD-ROM drive under DOS on this forum. See: http://www2.zzu.edu.cn/ie/newdos/dispbbs.asp?boardID=3&ID=524 As for ZCOPY, one thing to note is that it does not support long filenames.
