I want to copy all the contents of the XP installation CD onto the hard disk (not install it), but it says it can't be copied. How can I copy it over?

Try using the XCOPY command.

You can enter pure DOS mode and type the XCOPY command under C:\

The poster above is right, making it into an iso file is better, but do you have a virtual CD-ROM drive under DOS????

wemgier has introduced a method for using a virtual CD-ROM drive under DOS.
ZCOPY is also very useful. Its /N parameter can copy only new files, which is a big help if you want to continue a copy from last time.

Yes, I did introduce a method for using a virtual CD-ROM drive under DOS on this forum. See:

As for ZCOPY, one thing to note is that it does not support long filenames.
