I only installed the system a few days ago. Other than Office 2000 and some commonly used software, I didn't install anything else. But for some reason a couple of days ago, I suddenly became unable to create new shortcuts. Specifically:

Right-click a blank area on the desktop, choose “Shortcut” under “New,” and a dialog immediately pops up. The title is “Problem Creating Object,” and the message says “File already exists,” with only an OK button. After clicking OK, you can see a file named “New Shortcut”; it is 0 bytes in size, has no extension, and can be deleted.

Also:
1. Right-clicking a selected file and choosing “Create Shortcut” works without any problem;
2. Choosing “Shortcut” under “New” from the file menu in Explorer still has the same problem;
3. But if I click the “Add” button while customizing the Start Menu, the Create Shortcut wizard window does pop up.
4. As for shortcuts, the only thing I ever used was the option in Windows Optimization Master to remove the shortcut arrow and the word “Shortcut”; I didn't touch anything else.

Does nobody know? Or did I post in the wrong place?

How depressing, I only asked such a simple question, and nobody is paying any attention to me!
