After formatting, how do I install the system? Do I just install it directly from the CD? Do I need to type anything? Please, experts, give me some pointers!

Windows systems can support booting from CD, so you can just install directly. If it can't boot into setup, then under DOS go to the location of the installation disc
98, type SETUP

First: change the BIOS to boot from CDROM
Second: to install WINDIOWS2000, just put the WINDOWS2000 CD into the CD-ROM drive. ---- Then press F8 to agree to the terms. ------ Then select drive C, press ENTER, and that's it. After about 7~8 minutes the computer will restart automatically.
Third: change the BIOS back to boot from the hard disk.
Fourth: then Next, Next...
Fifth: installation successful.

Change the computer to CDROM boot, then find the 98 installation files on the CD (about 107 of them), and back up the *.* under this folder to a partition. Then enter this folder. Type SETUP then + space type /IS then + Enter

Press the computer's power button. After the POST screen appears, press the “DEL” key on the keyboard to enter BIOS setup (also called CMOS setup). If it is an AWARD BIOS, please in Advanced BIOS Setup O PTION first set the first item “Anti-Virus Protection” (virus detection) to Disabled, then set the device boot order item (First Boot Device) to "CD-R". Then press F10 to save and exit. After that, just follow the steps introduced by the people above to complete it. I'm showing off my slight skill in front of experts and making a fool of myself; please correct me, experts.

Under DOS, copy the contents of the CD to a drive, then enter that drive and run setup. This is not only faster, but also protects the CD.
