Because I modified my boot.ini file, as a result the system can't boot. Can I modify the boot.ini file directly under DOS without doing a repair installation??

Of course you can. Use ATTRIB first to remove BOOT.INI's read-only and other attributes, then just edit it with EDIT.

If it's an NTFS partition, then it's not that simple.
